This Week…Mother Nature is Having Her Way

Mother Nature can definitely get in the way sometimes - in CA, she's not helping efforts to put out those fires. In other areas, she's dumping ice and snow. She needs to relax!

Good morning, Kathy... what my friend Wayne Martin said. Your post reminded me of that very old commercial for Chiffon Margarine (does it even exist anymore?) that said "it's not nice to fool mother nature." I'm wondering if mother nature is having her revenge on us because someone was trying to fool her.

Good morning Kathy,

Mother Nature can be fickle and always has been! Right now she is playing havoc in many parts of the country! Its 32 degrees and sunny this morning in Austin and the freeze protector came on in my pool as soon as it hit freezing!

All over this great country we are having issues. Some (like California) created by bad political policy, some created by mother nature herself. Either way we have needed lots of prayers.

Kathy, Mother Nature is certainly reminding us who's in charge. Despite the challenges, brighter days are ahead, and she’ll reveal her true colors.

We had more snow overnight in Maryland. As I was shoveling snow, a neighbor, a young lady came over to help and actually took over the task. I am thankful for her kindness. This was the third time she helped me this week. She is an interior designer that also knows how to handle a shovel.

Nature will always have her way, man only thinks he can control it, the best he can do is prepare.

Mother Nature gets blamed for many things and part of these fires is because of high winds and hot embers blowing. Unfortunately, it has been reported that there have been a couple of people detained for possible arson.

Hello Kathy and Mother Nature sure is affecting all of us this past week from snow to ice and yes to fires.  The Ai picture in today blog was not my picture.

Kathy Streib - Yes! Dallas roads were treacherous and in Flower Mound too. I had to go out yesterday for an evening appointment (which wasn't cancelled) and road conditions were very scary! Coming home 3 1/2 hours later were even worse, and far worse than that were the number of cars passing me and watching them skid all over the roads! 

Kathy you are right we can't control mother nature, BUT we can prepare for what she sends our way, something elected officials of the state and LA area of CA failed to do.

I was surprised to see so much snow in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but then again I shouldn't be, haha.  I remember being there in the past for a wedding and the weather was nice heading into the reception, but then freezing cold when the reception was over, haha.

Mother Nature has certainly been busy in recent days and impacting the lives of millions of people with the fires and the winter storms. And it sounds like more high winds are in the future here in California.

We can't control Mother Nature but we can be as prepared as we possibly can and that takes experienced and wise leaders that  have dealt with catastrophic situations. As I drive around our neighborhood I can't help but think how devastating it would be to see so many houses/dreams burnt to the ground. I know the kindness of others around here would come out even more, for sure.

Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.

The storms in North Carolina and wildfires in California have taken so much from the people and as I read the stories that can bring the heart to a breaking point, Kathy. We are lucky to still have our home after wildfires raged in the area several years ago.

Mother Nature will always have her way.  Nice quotes, nice photos.

There's some not so great events happening at the moment but I will remain focused on how wonderful are fellow humans are at putting aside differences in getting in there and helping.  I struggle to find the silver lining in all of this recent devastation, but the kindness of others will always be my soft place to land.
