Sadly, with a heavy heart I am giving another update about the Pacific Palisades fires.
The recent devastating fires in Pacific Palisades and in Malibu have left many families without homes, belongings, or a sense of stability. The fires continue and as of this afternoon were only 8 per cent contained. I am only focusing on these two areas right now for the purpose of this update. This tragedy has not only destroyed properties but also shaken the hearts and spirits of those impacted.
The fire has already consumed around 20,438 acres. Sadly, many businesses and restaurants along Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Blvd to name a few, have been burned to the ground. The business owners as well as their employees who lost their living and income are in my thoughts.
During these difficult times, we need to stand united as a community and remain dedicated to supporting one another and rebuilding our neighborhoods.
Now with that said here are some additional need to know information:
- Pacific Coast Highway aka Route 1: southbound between Malibu Canyon Road and in Santa Monica from the 10 Freeway, northbound closed from McClure tunnel.
- Topanga Canyon Blvd also known as route 27: fully closed between PCH and Mulholland Drive
Basically, the winds have shifted back towards the Malibu area.
As of this date some of my favorite Restaurants have burned to the ground:
- The Reel Inn: a great reasonably priced nothing fancy but great seafood restaurant on PCH. We have eaten there often when we wanted good food not just fancy ambiance.
- Rosenthal Wine Bar: since you know we are wine lovers some might think I am a wine snob, hence I will miss it dearly
- Moon Shadows. This restaurant has special meaning to me, I still remember Diane’s parents enjoying the view and the food. Needless to say, all of Diane’s relatives who came out visiting had the pleasure of eating there. It was a reasonably priced seafood restaurant with fantastic ocean view. Everyone was looking forward to peek at the famous celebrity actor who considered it his regular eating place. If you did not remember it was Mel Gibson.
Despite the challenges, the incredible outpouring of support from across the nation has been truly inspiring. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up during these difficult times and reached out to me asking how they could help.
