Before Things Go Boom 🧨
Â
Emotions can ratchet high in business. How do you handle an irrational person who blows up in a real estate setting because they're not getting the results they want or suddenly feel the need to control?
Â
Â
Remaining calm is first and foremost without engaging the hot-headed individual. You can empathize and say, "I understand your frustrations." Take a break, then get back on track to the reason for the meeting.
Â
Â
When someone starts yelling, they have ran out of talking points and their position is over because unstable people fail to get good results. Stay focused, and remember that detachment goes a long way.
Â
Keep a specific record of the incident by writing everything down that happens in case it turns litigious, if things go south legally. When someone is verbally abusive or threatening, end the meeting quickly.
Â
If everything else fails, take leave and run for cover!

Professional advice:
Though I often take a light-hearted or comical approach to problems, do not remain in an unsafe situation that continues to elevate. People who are in a full-blown meltdown are not in control of their feelings and nothing good results from that.
