Good morning! What is Homer Alaska's normal winter weather? I was surprised when we went to the SE Alaska area to hear that winters were mostly rainy.

Debra Leisek

Hello Kat Palmiotti  Nothing is normal in Homer. We do get the nina winds El or La and what they call the trade winds. We are getting some wicked wind right now with gusts last night of 112 mph which is not normal and rare. They aren't that strong at my house right now but they are rattling us pretty good.

Temp wise we are 41 degrees and raining and there is flooding in a few places and one road is shut down.

This could all change and we could have 2 ft of snow by Wednesday!

We all know one thing the snow is not over for the year and we will be white and fluffy soon!

Debra Leisek - interesting! Thank you.

I really liked the Q&A between Kat Palmiotti and Debra Leisek! That was a good and valid question and a surprising answer to me! I must say, Debra's photos of houses for sale look nothing like igloos. So that's good! They are all so interesting, especially the one that looks like a Bob Ross painting. The others are absolutely unique and very enticing!

Debra, your photo of spring in January is beautiful! The blue comes through so vividly against the sky and water. You certainly have no set temperatures, and each day really can be a new day in Homer, Alaska!

Hello Debra - Spring in January?  Do tell us more.  I know nature can be unpredictable and fickle, but something tells me, there is a story behind this post about Homer Alaska real estate.

Hello Michael Jacobs ! Nature is not predictable here for sure. Last week we were white out snow driving into town, then freezing rain and ice and now winds, rain and 40 degrees! All the snow was wiped away and it looked like May!  We just go with the flow and take advantage of the no ice days!

Debra Leisek - your January 2025 photograph of Homer, Alaska is breathtaking! It could make a great painting to be hung in one of those gorgeous homes you have listed for sale. I have dear friends. They are a lovely couple. He wants so badly to go back to Alaska where he was stationed but his wife says no. He's in his 80s and she is a lot younger.

Debra Leisek - they lived in Alaska while he was in the military. He loves it; she couldn't wait for warm weather. I'll share your listings with her.

I saw the Wolf Full Moon about this time yesterday. It was amazing. I just stepped outside, and the moon is directly above my house. I had to just about go out into the street to take this photograph. From my vision, I couldn't see all that white stuff. I just saw the moon in a dark sky.
