Let Nature Take Its Course

When it comes to snow it's fine to move it but it's best to let nature melt it. There are a whole lot of things Mother Nature is NOT best at, such as clearing ground cover in wooded areas, just ask our CA friends who have been battling fires.

So where did Timmothy get the idea of melting snow with a flame thrower? I can not take direct credit for it but I do have a flame thrower and he has seen my use it... but not for melting snow. Maybe I should give it a try.

Good Afternoon Bob "RealMan" Timm

You have a flamethrower? In the Northern States, we use a lot of sand | Ice Melt | Rock Salt | Pet Friendly Ice Melt...lol We're always trying to beat Mother Nature at melting snow...lol

Doug Dawes I purchased it for weeding purposes. After Minot's 2011 flood we had a lot of weeds. In Fact pretty much the entire valley was weeds (keep in mind the flood waters sat there for a whole month and killed everything except large trees. NOW I use it to burn up weeds in my garden after I harvest it. I also found it helps get rid of fresh oil spills on the driveway and it's also good for starting my fire pit.

Speaking as someone who recently had a hard fall Roy Kelley I don't leave the house to walk my dog without my cleated overshoes. They are dang heavy so I just take shorter walks these days.

I've been out shoveling snow that came off of our roof on out front steps and sidewalk.

Snow that falls from the roof gets really compacted and hard to shovel Roy Kelley . It doesn't need to fall far either, when it comes off our carport it only drops about 6-1/2 feet and it's hard to move again.

The snow was compacted and I had chop it out.

Thank you Lew Corcoran . If we get much more snow I just might break out the flame thrower. The piles are getting pretty high.

Timothy is spot on with melting the snow only to have it turn to ice.  Our winter been mild thus far but with the warmer day temps nights see even the slightly icy temps making everything slick.  m

It sounds like he learned a lesson, haha.  When I hear flamethrower, I think about Tesla selling a flamethrower, but having to call it "not a flamethrower" in order to sell it, haha.

A few years ago, our driveway was totally covered in ice. I would have loved to have some way to melt it quickly and would not have been opposed to trying a flamethrower!

Kat Palmiotti this has been a slipping, sliding, and falling winter for me so I just may get that flamethrower out yet. 😉

Bob, will you be affected by the artic blast this weekend?   We are expecting very low temps - single digits in the day, below zero overnight.

Jan 14, 2025 08:43 AM
Bob "RealMan" Timm

Lately our lows have been double digits below zero Joan Cox but we will see a short warm up the next couple of days. HOWEVER we will most likely be hit by that artic blast this weekend. This morning I woke up to -19 not counting the windchill. Once it gets that cold you can only put on so many layers of clothing.

Hello Bob, I love living in Denver and the Sun helps us dry the sidewalks and roads.  Never figure about melting snow that way.

I have not seen that method of snow removal either Will Hamm but just think... if your hands get cold you could easily warm them up.
