Memberships...How Many Do We Really Need?

By

Do you guys ever have this thought process?

UGH...Just received another e-mail saying it is time to renew my membership for the year. How many memberships does a guy or gal really need?

I have one CC and no debit card for work and the same for home.

However, today I have either cards or more from: Sam's, Costco, AAA, CHI Health Workout facility, MyState MLS, Nebraska Real Estate Commission, Notary card, Insurance cards for vehicle(s), HyVee Gas Card, work CC Card, health insurance cards and more...and yes almost all of them have to be updated every dang year and if they have a cost...ugh.

Even my conceal carry costs me money. So does my Firearm purchase permit. Plus hunting licenses...park permits, lake permits, national park permits, hotel memberships, plus more.

Almost all have an annual fee or semi annual fee ....but.... the majority are utilized a lot throughout the year.

One thing I do recommend and I do use is having extra hoops to jump through when I am signing on to an account if possible.

A hassle? Yes...but necessary.

The thing is...I use them all but man it is hard keeping up with the crap you get through email.

Last week I received an email saying the membership will auto-renew on x-date and now on that date I received an email from the same email address saying to set up auto-renew.  I think I will wait a few days.

I walked into the Dentist this morning at 8 am to get my teeth cleaned and they hand me a sheet to update all of my info...Info that is identical to what they have on file...and I had to refill it out...exactly the same as the last time.  And the time before that.  Aye yi yi!

Until Next Time...have to get back to Grandpa duties...and finish jumping through hoops for some insurance!! Mike

Have great Wednesday evening and awesome Thursday! m

Mike, I saw you mentioned national park permits in your list.  I took advantage of my veteran status go get a lifetime pass for $10, and a senior lifetime pass for Liz for $80.  I have some parks on my bucket list, and we'll be living next to Harpers Ferry after we move.

Kathy Streib , I'm looking forward to exploring once we get moved in.  3 visits to the area so far, but always a drive in, spend the night in a hotel, go up the mountain to meet the builder in the morning, then drive to my parents immediately after.

Ditto on the Lifetime National Park Pass for Veterans.  Technically "free", but there is a $10 processing fee... it's an incredible deal, considering how many Parks now have costly entrance fees.

That pass covers up to 3 adult passengers in your vehicle.  In addition to National Parks, it covers Federal Wildlife Refuges and National Forests... some 2000+ total locations.

Yes...I have the National Park Pass for Seniors...but some parks still charge extra from that.  I am glad you are using yours!

Hi Mike- It seems that everytime I visit a website or download an app, I have to establish a membership. I finally created an excel file to list memberships and if they auto=renewed.

Oooooohhhh - I feel you on this one. Especially the part about having to complete information the doctor already has! Geeze.

Hello Mike - it seems anything you join sells your information to other places.   The solicitations are unending even after you are no longer a part of that original membership.

Good morning, Mike... I can tell you that I've eliminated many real estate related memberships except for those I have to have.

Oh yes, I should go through my cards to see if there are any I can eliminate. I do use my library card and Costco cards quite often!

It's all too much! Along with memberships, there are constant requests for feedback for even the tiniest thing one does nowadays.

I have just changed Doctor's practice but I noticed that every time I visit they ask me to check the information they have for me. I do not have to enter anything unless it is different. I like that idea.

Donald has the national park pass for veterans.  And I have a ton of my "membership" thingies on my phone.  Like my "kroger boost" "insurance card", health insurance, sams etc. scanned into my phone and the store scanner works fine on it on my phone.  I keep the actual cards in the safe.

Great post!  I, too, have gone thru my memberships and purged a majority of them.  The secret is to know when they automatically renew so as to go to that account and stop the renewal action (which they conveniently make as autopay).

Hi Mike:

Ah, yes, the memberships can get overwhelming, along with all the passwords you need to keep for all the websites...and every time you do something it seems you get a feedback request. And they all want you on their email list for marketing!

Good morning Mike McCann Nebraska Land Broker ,

Somehow I missed your post so was glad to see Carol Williams featured it in her Saturday Series. I'm with you on all the renewals! Its hard to keep up with it all! The doctor visits I can really relate! It's so annoying to fill out the sane stuff each year but I guess sometimes it can change.

It's very clear you are outstanding in your field. I cover a wide area in many states, and it seems that they want me to get a membership everywhere I speak. I just can't afford to get that many memberships. Wow.
