It's Never To Cold To Snow.

First I want to clarify that it is not snowing today and it did not snow yesterday when it was -25 degrees but it could have. I have seen many days this/that cold with snow. When that happens it is truly miserable if you go out to move the snow. Like Titus & Philemon I'd say lite the fireplace... if I had one.

That being said one should be aware that a fireplace is usually a big heat loss to a house. There are some great (free) apps you can run on your TV to give the appearance of a fireplace but there is little romance to sit in front of it with your sweetheart.

Personally I do have a full size mock fireplace that has a heat element in it and I do feel romantic sitting in front of it. It's an older unit but it's still beautiful and it was a gift from my favorite Sellers of all time. Thank you Gus and Jane.

A special gift from special people make even the ordinary so much more appreciated, and seemingly always with the warmth of the memory attached to its giving.  m

Gus and Jane were really special people Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho . I no longer remember where they moved to but they lived on the meager retirement of an Air Force Sergeant for many years but it did not keep up with inflation so they were flat broke. They moved somewhere South to live with one of their children who was ready and willing and able to take care of them. A happy ending for all.

Good morning, Bob... my current and my last house both had chimney-less gas fireplaces. If I turn my fireplace three times in a year...it's a lot. But it does look pretty.

As you know Nina Hollander, Broker my Love I often dream of sitting in front of a fireplace with you and watching the flames reflect in your eyes.

Good morning Bob. For me the wood burning fireplace is a thing the past. Our first townhome had two fireplaces we seldom used. We moved to a home with a fireplace in the family room and I burned tons of wood every Fall and Winter. Then our pilgrimage to Florida for 27 years, no fireplace. Back in Chicago with a gas fireplace, seldom used because of grandchildren. Now in a townhome with o fireplace and don't really miss it. Oh, the times have changed. No snow but -8 here and -19 with windchill. We may stay in today! Enjoy your day.

It's been well over 50 years since I've lived in a home with a fireplace Wayne Martin and yet I still miss it. I think that is why I claim to be a bit of a pyromaniac but I keep my passion in the camping fire pit.

-25 is definitely chilly! Is today going to be better?

As for the fireplace/etc, they do sell electric fireplaces that throw off heat. I definitely prefer our wood stove - emits a lot of heat and looks pretty!

I've always wanted a decorative wood furnace Kat Palmiotti but quite a while ago my insurance agent at the time said "you can't afford it" so I never checked into it again.

Thank you Bill Salvatore - East Valley and I agree it is frightening. Especially when you consider the number of homeless who have to find a way to cope with it.

I know that is rare Dorie Dillard Austin TX but I'm sure many are excited about it. I say that because I was down that way on a business trip in January many years ago and people said they wish it would freeze so it would kill off some insects.

Whether there is a lot of snow on the ground or not, the government workers who haven't been working better be getting into the office and putting in work, haha.

Hi Bob- our snow we got yesterday is melting. The roads are still iffy because it was in the mid 20's last night. The melted snow is now ice on the roads. I love the look of fireplaces however my issue with them is that they're warm if you're very close to them but when you walk any distance from them, you're freezing.

We have gas logs now.

Even up here few people know how to drive on ice Kathy Streib so be safe and avoid it if you can. I remember (now that you mentioned it) my parents converting our fireplace to gas. It was nice but I like a rip roaring log fire that crackles and snaps and then dies down to hot embers.
