Wordless Wednesday…Yes, It Snowed!

We may get hurricanes and the occasional tornado but SNOW??!! We woke up Tuesday to snow flurries. I’m still a kid when it comes to snow, so I was up and out the back door when it was still dark out!

You know you’re in trouble when Jim Cantore (The Weather Channel) shows up in your city.

On the rare occasions that it snows here, almost everything comes to a halt. Schools closed, most people were home, both our airports closed, and all of our elevated freeways and flyovers iced over.

On the left-a LBB (Little Brown Bird) feasts on my homemade peanut butter suet.

On the right- young and old took advantage of any snow-covered small hills, fashioned whatever they could for a sled and had a ball!  This man had a true Texas Buc-ees inner tube for his sled. I saw video of people using large pieces of cardboard covered in plastic, garbage can lids, canoes, and a small air mattresses!

Thanks to the heater Larry placed in our bird bath, we made sure that our backyard friends had water rather than one large ice cube.

Good morning, Kathy... I was just about to text you and see if you "survived" and your post popped up. So I guess I have the answer to my question! Charlotte seemed to have dodged the bullet again... we had a light dusting last night... of course, it's icy now and we just have to wait for the temps to warm up to melt it down.

Nina Hollander, Broker Yesterday a lot of my time was spent going in and out feeding the squirrels and birds. We had quite a few in the yard. I would loved to have more snow but I'm happy for what we had.

Kathy, We have about 3 inches here, but Houston? Wow, that is incredible and probably so exciting for young and old alike!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 we are all like children when it snows here. I would have been out on one of those hills if it were closer.

Our window bird feeder came down due to the cold and the birds keep looking for it as it refused to restick to the window.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 ours didn't fall off completely but was at an angle. I saw a small bird go into it and had a look like "What happened?!"

Hello Kathy - while I have resided elsewhere, the place I enjoy most at times like these is seeing snow from afar.

Michael Jacobs I love how peaceful it is outdoors in the snow. Yesterday was my "play" day except for during our Zoom call.

Be careful when you are out for your walks. Years ago, I slipped on the ice and ended up with two knee operations and was out of the office for several month.

Kathy, saw the people sledding in Houston this morning and thought of you.  Bet that was a surprise.   Was wondering where they got he sleds, but now I know, use whatever works.   At my house, thinking we only got 5", but the forecasters said it was too cold to snow.   We did drop below zero every night for 3 days.

Joan Cox oh yes, they were using garbage can lids, canoes, whatever. When we lived in Leesburg, VA, Larry bought a big saucer from WalMart and we went down the small hill in our backyard. I had so much fun.

George Souto I think we had 3 or 4 inches. The city of Houston had 6 inches.

Will Hamm the last time it snowed, we had bluebird eggs in the box. Larry went out every 4 hours with hand warmers to try to keep the nest warm.

I am amazed at the places that received large amounts of snow...while we usually have a bunch...we have had maybe 5 or 6 inches all winter.  Snow on Palm Trees has a unique look to them!!  I hope they all survive!

Kathy Streib - I really enjoyed seeing your photos from the recent snowstorm, especially the last one with the heater in the water fountain. That squirrel really enjoyed it! You and Larry are very kind and thoughtful, to all creatures on earth.

It has been cold here too. 29 degrees this morning. Stay warm!

Hi Kathy:

Loved your photos and that you took time to care for the local birds. There have been all kinds of stories about the snow - such a fun surprise for many who rarely get it. The storm sounds like a nasty one, covering a broad area.

We actually had some rain today...although not much, we are grateful for whatever we get.
