Snow Day in Austin!

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty ~ 512.750.6899

When I went to bed Monday night, it was a crisp 31 degrees, and I caught a glimpse of snowflakes and sleet starting to dance in the air. Fast forward to this morning—hello, winter wonderland! I woke up to a frosty 26 degrees and a delicate blanket of snow covering everything.

Okay, maybe it was less than an inch (thanks for keeping us grounded, weather folks), but for Austin, that’s a big deal! Schools were closed, a severe weather warning was issued until 6 pm, and everyone went into full "Texas snowstorm mode."

By 10 am, the sun decided to join the party, and the great melt began. Tomorrow promises a wild weather rollercoaster with temps starting at 23 degrees and climbing to a sunny 49. Classic Texas, right? Around here, we say, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 10 minutes!”

Check out these photos of my snow-covered deck and pool—it’s not every day we get this kind of view in Austin!

Hi Dorie- it's always fun when it snows here because we really don't know how to deal with it!!! Houston had to borrow snow plows from Abeline!  I loved seeing everyone out at some of the areas that have small hills sliding down using any kind of makeshift shed they could find.

Glad you stayed in.

Hi Kathy Streib the sun was out and melted most of the snow and after today reaching 49 degrees it's history!

Dorie, if you need more snow and colder temps, we've got some to spare in Ohio :)  We're flirting with zero degrees right now and the Chihuahuas are not fans!

Good morning, Dorie... all I can say is better Austin than Charlotte! The frigid cold yesterday that made it feel like 11 degrees in Charlotte was enough to put up with! Enjoy, but stay safe.

That still seems like a lot of snow to me, haha.  I remember loving snow days when I was a kid since they weren't very frequent.

Good morning Dorie. My friend who lives in Hardeville South Carolina sent me a photo of the view of his golf course this morning completely covered in snow. Needless to say the town without snow plows and salt is completely shut down as people awake to nature's surprise. Enjoy the rarity.

Hi Dorie,
Snow is Austin would be a fun change of pace, especially for the kids if they don't have to go to school. I'd stay off the road, though, since I doubt most drivers there don't know how to navigate in snowy conditions.

Drivers have no clue how to drive in weather like this Carol Williams ! Good to stay off the roads if nothing more to avoid other drivers!

Hi Dorie:

Bet the kids enjoyed the snow and the snow day from school. Sounds like this storm hit quite a large chunk of the South and Southeast, perhaps even some areas that never get snow.
