Good morning, Joe... I'm not a small dog fan... have always believed my dogs should not be the size of my cats. But that being said, when it comes to small dogs I am very fond of the Papillon... they are lovely dogs.

Nina, I have been a dog owner for many years.  I have never owned a small dog but I prefer larger dogs (at least 20 + pounds).  However, after I lost my Shetland Sheepdog to diabetes, our house was so empty, we decided to police sponsor adopt a dog weekend. I 'sniffed' many dogs but was not able to find a dog that would adopt me. On the way out of the event, I saw a little chihuahua, I picked it up, it looked at me with those big eyes and rested her head against my chest. I melted, my heart's heartbeat increase, so I knew she was the one that wanted a home with me. She had been abused.  It took me two years to get her to stop shaking, to stop hiding underneath the bed, and other behaviors that I had to help her correct.  Today, she is warm, comfortable, and has bonded with me.  She (Lola) and I have bonded.  I thought I would never adopt a dog that small, but I guess she knew exactly what to do to get a home on that day at the adoption event.  I'm happy that she is happy.

Dorie, there is more to learn about animals that what I thought. It was interesting and fund writing the series.  I'm glad you appreciated the series.

BTW, as I shared with you before, I am a native Austinite. I see that it has been cold again.  Stay warm.  Joe
