Closing Thoughts as Another Month

Approaches Its End. . .

Sooner or later, everything old is new again”

attributed to Stephen King

January can be special for many reasons. There is something to be said for being first, right?  But along with being placed in the front of most calendars, January is a time when resolutions are made, predictions are forecast, and many sorts of other occurrences can seem both unprecedented yet so typical.

Perhaps it's in the repetitiveness of the yearly scenario that we see the sluggishness of speed. Doesn't that underscore the movement of ordinariness. A contradiction? Maybe, something else. So, here are quotes from some who capture such things much better than this wandering, pondering observer. While they may seem to have little or nothing in common, these words of wisdom tell me more.

We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic.

Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings,

different hopes, different dreams.

Attributed to Jimmy Carter

The biggest thrill a ballplayer can have is when your son takes after you.

That happened to me when my Bobby was in his championship Little League game.

He really showed me something.

Struck out three times.  Made an error that lost the game.

Parents were throwing things at our car and swearing at us as we drove off.

Gosh, I was proud.

Attributed to Bob Uecker

Negativity is the enemy of creativity.

Attributed to David Lynch

The time is always right to do what is right.

Attributed to Martin Luther King, Jr

Saturday, we will say hello to February 2025. It's a short month so it may be gone before some realize it has arrived. Each of us moves beyond the past in our own way. And so, it goes. . .

Michael, that’s a great quote from Martin Luther King Jr., and it serves as a timeless reminder that doing what is right should never be delayed!

Will Hamm - following you and your posts over the years, I know we have a love of quotes in common.  Sooner or later and typically quite often, I have included words of wisdom by others in my posts - the authors typically capture such moments much better than I can.

HI Michael I'm rather encouraged and excited to begin this new month!  I am so happy that my eye surgeon gave me the go ahead to get moving again and the eye is healing nicely. Now I can get back to walking and my other plans I made in January!  Yes!

The time is always right to do what is right.

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho - admittedly, I'm not much of a sports fan but Bob Uecker played that aspect of his comedy routines quite well.  He stepped up to the plate often.  Rarely missing, he hit home and made his point.   😃⚾😀

Hi Michael- I welcome your thoughts for the approaching February. Interesting that 3 of your quotes passed away within a few weeks of each other..in fact, David Lynch and Bob Uecker within a day of each other. I loved the quotes but the back of my mind popped in and said "wait a minute..."

At any rate...Happy approaching February.

Michael- the mixed bag worked well!!!

Kathy Streib - I attempted to tie together observations of January as well as some notable events of the last few weeks along with the passing of these three who performed in extraordinary ways.  Sometimes this mixed bag of thoughts combines in a post.  And then there are those occasions when it stirs in my brain.

I hope all has gone well for you this month.

Roy Kelley - in some, maybe many, January has been a rollercoaster of events as well as thoughts.  Record-keeping, paperwork and being in control plus properly prepared sums up this month as it comes to a close.  It actually works well every single day.

Great quotes! However I wonder, or maybe ponder, about negativity and creativity. I've been know to get pretty creative when in a negative frame of mind. LOL

Sharon Tara - I can see that point about creativity and negativity.  It was a quote that seem to work with the thought process that prompted finding a quote by David Lynch.

Hello Michael,

The power of words in quotes is evident for those who are moved by simple yet profound messages. Some words hold such immense power that they reverberate quietly within us, only to burst into life when these teachings are manifested in reality.

The quotes showcased in your post hold a distinctive power and have a profound impact when applied. Let’s share the message with the members of the Old Farts Club group.

Wordplay is such a fascinating art form, isn't it? It allows us to twist and mold language creatively, making even the simplest expressions feel vibrant and unique. And it's natural to reflect on how things could be expressed better—that's part of the beauty of wordplay!

Your fascination with it already shows you greatly appreciate the craft!

Jan 30, 2025 11:58 AM

Aura Alex - I have long been fascinated by wordplay even though I often end up wondering, could I have expressed it better.   Thank you for highlighting the post with the OFC group.  I appreciate it.
