The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch Open March 1, 2025
The Carlsbad Flower Fields in Carlsbad CA are greening up for the big day. Opening Day is Saturday March 1st. According to the Blooming Status on their website 1 yellow Ranunculas is open (but perhaps there are more). However, I didn’t see any blooms when I stopped by yesterday morning to take these photos, just acres of greenery.
Having visited the Flower Fields several times I can tell you they are very special in person. Visitors must book their tickets online for a specific date and arrival time. Tickets are not available at the entrance. Once you are in the venue you can stay as long as you wish (the Flower Fields close at 6 pm).
Here's what to expect once the Flower Fields reach their peak bloom (photo is from 2024). That often happens in late March depending on the weather. However, they are beautiful even when not at peak bloom, and a wonderful sign of spring!
The Carlsbad Flower Fields have been a popular tourist attraction for more than 60 years. There are approximately 55 acres of brightly colored Ranunculus, and reportedly millions of flowers. The transitions during the year are fun to watch as the fields change from brown dirt hillside to green plants, then to vibrant colors, and back again to brown dirt when blooming season ends.
The Carlsbad Flower Fields are open from March 1st until Mother’s Day, which is Sunday May 11th in 2025.
Some of the attractions at the Flower Fields include:
- Historic Poinsettia display (20+ rare and unusual varieties)
- Sweet Pea maze
- Santa’s Playground
- Artist Gardens and Bird Aviaries
- Multiple gardens – Butterfly, Mediterranean, Illusion, Sculpture
- Food is available at the Strawberry Shack (serving all sorts of sweet treats), Pizza Trolley, Sweet Swirls Ice Cream and Kettle Kernels Popcorn.
- American Flag of Flowers on the south side of the fields. This can be seen from Palomar Airport Road at Armada Drive at the entrance to Costco
Here’s a list of activities to enjoy (concerts, yoga, and more) at the Carlsbad Flower Fields for 2025. Some of these events sell out quickly so don’t delay in getting tickets if you’re interested.
Visitors enjoy walking through the fields to experience the flowers close up with wonderful photo opportunities. Drones are not allowed.
For a different perspective, take a ride on an antique tractor wagon and appreciate the Flower Fields during your tour. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 3 to 10 (free for kids under 3). You can purchase tractor tickets once inside the venue with a credit or debit card (no cash and no purchases online).
One wonderful vantage point (my opinion) is looking down on the fields from Armada Drive, with the Carlsbad windmill in the distance and 180 degree views of the ocean. It’s an expansive view and it’s free. While it’s not the same as walking through the fields, you can stop by whenever you want and the views are terrific!
