Plan A and Plan B

2025 is going to be a very interesting and fun year. It will be split in two parts.

Plan A is Jan 1 until May 31. If you may recall, I sold my company to my lead inspector Luke in September last year. We completed 649 inspections last year with an increase of 29. The average inspection fee increased $16 over 2023. Luke has made several significant and profitable changes in the services offered to our homebuyer clients. We now do radon testing as well as sewerscope inspections. These two services, while not done on every single inspection, have been enough to increase the avereage inspection fee over $50 since September. That is a major increase over a year of approximately $32K. He has applied for a license in the neighboring state of Indiana, which will be another boost in sales. We hired a new young inspector who has been amazing in his first several months. My role for this period has been to continue to handle scheduling, the marketing and promotion for the company, social media, realtor events and work on getting new offices to use our service. We have mutually agreed that when my wife retires the end of May, that I would turn over these duties to another person, not yet hired.

Plan B is very much a work in progress. My wife and I have never travelled a whole lot, but there are countless places we would love to visit. There are so many beautiful sites in the United States we have never seen before and now is the time to do it. Basement at the Alamo comes to mind. If you get this, you get it.

I have hundreds of books I've been meaning to read. I will still work at my local bicycle repair charity once a week. I started doing a type of art called mandala about 2 years ago and from what I've been told, they are pretty good. Templates and rulers and markers, not computer art. See for yourself.

It's a very relaxing hobby and at some point, I will have enough completed to put together a collection for an adult coloring book. Not the gold and silver ones, those are ready to frame and hang. My wife is ready to go and hopefully our health will continue to allow us to do the things we always dreamed of doing.

Hello Scott - I like your multi-approach plan, and it looks as if you have put forth both effort and thought into its successful execution.  Thank you for the introduction to mandala.  My first response to seeing your beautiful examples was a throwback moment of sorts of Spirograph from my childhood which I enjoyed thoroughly even though my artistic skills are limited even with the tools provided in the kit.  ✈️🚆🚘

I do have an old spirograph that belongs to my wife. It's pretty cool.

Scott Seaton Jr. SLS Home Insp - With all your years of Home Inspections, you have honed your attention to detail skills into beautiful, fresh, and new design patterns. I absolutely love them! If it makes you and your wife as happy as I would be, if those were my mandala art, I would be so proud to show them off and perhaps make a little or a lot of money on them so that you can splurge on whatever vacations you and your wife would love to see.

I love to visit art galleries and studios. There was one I stopped in not long ago in the city of McKinney, Texas in the historic district. They had all different types of art that were absolutely as gorgeous as your mandala art! In that shop, there were many different kinds of paintings, but it was the most unusual works of art that I was most attracted to and also the most expensive to buy!

Good luck! Be happy! Fulfill your dreams!

Hi Patricia, Thanks for the compliment. I do have several hanging in the house. I've done some very personalized ones with hidden clues to the favorite things of the person getting the picture. Like my wife's had Barbie, Wizard of Oz, Beatles, ELO and her native country of Latvia, all in the picture.

Text me your mailing address and I'll send you a print of one of the designs. I'll surprise you. It won't be one of these on the post.

Scott Seaton Jr. SLS Home Insp - WOW! I am impressed! Love the idea of the personalized hidden clues!!! All the ones you mentioned sounded so unique, especially for members of your family and friends. Talk about never-ending conversation pieces!

Scott, I think you're a genius! I think you sold your business just in time to enjoy the golden years of your life, that few will ever be able to enjoy.

Scott Seaton Jr. SLS Home Insp - Let's not forget the fashion industry. I have been taking classes on fashion designers. The most famous designers have the most details. I could see an extravagant gown made out of any of the patterns you mentioned. And wouldn't it be sweet if a gown was made with hidden barbie doll fashions? Or Princess Grace?

Go, Scott, Go! I'm impressed with everything on your Plan A, B, and beyond. Your art is awesome and an adult coloring book idea is great. My brother does that and he finds it very relaxing.

I'll be interested to hear about your travels too!
