 A publication written by AARP writer Beth Braverman on December 16, 2024, provides a list of 10 things Americans can't stop buying online.  

As shopping habits continue to shift, one trend has remained a constant for two decades: Consumers are spending more and more of their dollars online. In the second quarter of 2024, 16 percent of all retail sales took place online, more than double the share of e-commerce purchases in 2015.

While it’s possible to buy nearly anything online these days, some categories are more popular with online shoppers than others. Here’s a look at the top 10 most popular products sold online in the second quarter of 2024 by the millions of businesses that use Shopify to power their platforms:

  1. Vitamins and supplements
  2. Skincare
  3. Makeup
  4. Coats/jackets
  5. Bicycles
  6. Arts and crafts supplies
  7. Drinkware
  8. Perfume/Cologne
  9. Wine
  10. Socks

More and more, I shop online. I like it for the following reasons:

1. it's convenient

2. I don't have to drive (save on gas and wear and tear on my car)

3. I don't have to worry about parking.

4. I don't have to see the baskets that people leave in parking spaces

5. It safer to shop online than be out in crowds

6. In many cases (depending on amount) free shipping

There are some disadvantages, but that could be another blog.

You are right, online marketing  fits in perfectly with real estate.

Hello Joe, we are buying more food online and deliver then before.  Use to buy wine from the Napa area when we visit them, but have not been there since 2018 so stop getting expensive wine around 2021

Like I mentioned in my comment to Dennis, I find myself shopping online more and more. It seems that most of my neighbors do the same. It's easy, convenient, and I can shop at any time of the day (24 hours).

Some of the items on the list leaned toward women (skin care, perfume, makeup).  The only item on the list that I purchase online is vitamins.

Hi Joe- I was discussing this with the owner of the chocolate shop I visited today. We admitted to buying most of our "stuff" online now. Not only is it easier but in some high crime areas, it's safer to shop online.

Kathy - on my comment to Dennis, I stated that one reason I do online shopping is for safety (look what happened at Walmart in El Paso and a grocery store in NY). These are a few examples.

We buy most of our staff online. Amazon and similar platforms makes it too convenient not to. The orders are delivered the next day.

Hello Joe - the world of commerce continues to evolve.  Unfortunately, it my opinion, there are too many of us who seem to enjoy "stuff".  Maybe that's why we have overcrowded garages where cars can't fit or plentiful storage units where boxes "go" never to be unpacked or put into use.
