Trying to Make a Difference and Dreams Come to Reality

The business of real estate is unique as it is one of people facilitating others with making some of the largest investments of their lives. It is done with the hope that the agent they select is qualified and will do their best to get them a quality purchase, or when selling the sale that will offer no regrets.

Many people in the business came here by way of family involvement in the business, either as investors or established real estate brokers.

Others got into the business as a way of reorganizing their lives to get away from a stress-filled career seeking better time management.

For me it was just another change in direction. I remember calling my wife on a Monday morning and telling her that I quite my job. This was right after a very relaxing vacation. I stopped just short of the lyrics of the song in telling my then boss what he could do with the job.

Having a great deal of common sense, and a mind that seldom accepted anything less than doing a job right, I embarked on the next phase of my journey through life.

As I worked my job, with a business card that had a balloon on it, I took advantage of the learning, and wanting to know more always took extra CE classes just because.

Along the way, I became known for doing it right and even had other no real estate professionals referring their friends to me as a person that would take care of them, and would do it right.

As I now approach what will be the final stages of my working life, I do so with a few regrets for some of the people that were not able to get their dreams answered, but not necessarily due to a failure on my part to give them all I had.

I am far more selective with what I now do but only because of the reality that life just doesn't allow us to do the same as we once did, but not for the lack of wanting and referring to someone I trust.

Ed, you made the right choice.  When it stops being enjoyable, it is time to move on.  Time is to valuable to spend it doing something we do not look forward to doing.

George Souto Many people stay at a job because they fear they cannot find another that will pay the bills. Having confidence in oneself always helps.

Kathy Streib  In over 20 years and so many clients, only one woman made a comment that I thought I was a comedian and should focus more on my job.

She was also looking for me to find her a $300,000 house that she could buy for $200,000, Who was the real comedian??

Hello Ed - perspective definitely plays a part in the life of a real estate professional/   Without it, it's just another job that anyone can do.   In reality, it's so much more than that.

If consumers always selected the right real estate agent, I don't think the industry would have the reputation that it does, haha.  Picking the right real estate agent makes a world of difference!

Brian England   The reputation is determined by how we approach our clients and don't look at them as having a dollar sign symbol over their heads.

You are such a great writer, Ed Silva, 203-206-0754. This was an easy post to read and one I can certainly relate to. I quit my "job" over 37 years ago and have never looked back. Helping others make their dreams come true and making a difference in their lives is an HONOR that we real estate professionals are able to do on a regular basis.

Good morning Ed. The true judge of how successful you have been is you. If you can honestly say you have done the best you can with the time you had, regardless of what others think, you were successful. And as we age we can't do what we have always done but we can do what we can do the same way. Enjoy your day.
