I have to admit that in the last 3 or 4 years, blogging hasn’t been my mainstay as it was for so many. Years back, my mind was open to the possibilities of sharing this event, that photo, a sudden insight…etc. I did love blogging. Without going into a slew of excuses, I just let myself draw away from the many benefits of the community of Active Rain.
Today I had one of those flashes of inspiration that used to hit me several times a day when I was feeding my desire to blog. Today I awoke and was thinking about my friend, whose work consists of meeting after meeting after meeting. It took me back to the time I worked a 9-5 job and a student had come into interview me.
“What do you dislike the most when working your position” they had asked.
“Interruptions” I said, without pause.
That Q and A still makes me smile.
I was at that position a few more years before I realized my job WAS the interruptions.
Think about your own lives, routine, work schedule. Unless you are a researcher or scientist working alone in a cut-off environment (for example)…what IS your job?
As a REALTOR-BROKER of my own firm, and my own active business – my job IS the interruptions. And what actually feeds my brain and fires my curiosity to learn? Interruptions.
A REALTOR’s job in a transaction is to problem solve, put out fires, anticipate markets and interactions, and balance the interplay between all parties. That takes a lot of calls, emails, texts….otherwise known as “Interruptions”.
Through all of the breaks and intrusions we face as Real Estate Agents, we work to achieve that scale where all parties are in the best position they can be, whether they are a loan officer, buyer’s agent, or listing a home for our clients.
Welcome the interruptions, and put your best foot forward. I think it’s a mutually beneficial exchange – especially in the long run. Oh, excuse me...the phone is ringing...
