Interruptions, Problem Solving and Finding Joy

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Golden Girls with SW Desert Homes BR564219000

I have to admit that in the last 3 or 4 years, blogging hasn’t been my mainstay as it was for so many. Years back, my mind was open to the possibilities of sharing this event, that photo, a sudden insight…etc. I did love blogging.  Without going into a slew of excuses, I just let myself draw away from the many benefits of the community of Active Rain.

Today I had one of those flashes of inspiration that used to hit me several times a day when I was feeding my desire to blog. Today I awoke and was thinking about my friend, whose work consists of meeting after meeting after meeting.  It took me back to the time I worked a 9-5 job and a student had come into interview me.

“What do you dislike the most when working your position” they had asked.

“Interruptions” I said, without pause.

That Q and A still makes me smile.

I was at that position a few more years before I realized my job WAS the interruptions.

Think about your own lives, routine, work schedule.  Unless you are a researcher or scientist working alone in a cut-off environment (for example)…what IS your job?

As a REALTOR-BROKER of my own firm, and my own active business – my job IS the interruptions.  And what actually feeds my brain and fires my curiosity to learn?  Interruptions.

A REALTOR’s job in a transaction is to problem solve, put out fires, anticipate markets and interactions, and balance the interplay between all parties.  That takes a lot of calls, emails, texts….otherwise known as “Interruptions”.

Through all of the breaks and intrusions we face as Real Estate Agents, we work to achieve that scale where all parties are in the best position they can be, whether they are a loan officer, buyer’s agent, or listing a home for our clients.

Welcome the interruptions, and put your best foot forward. I think it’s a mutually beneficial exchange – especially in the long run.  Oh, excuse me...the phone is ringing...

I love the perspective you bring on interruptions, Cara! In real estate, every call, email, or text is a chance to problem solve and move things forward, and embracing these "interruptions" really makes us better at what we do. It’s a reminder that the chaos of the day is what drives our success and helps us create positive outcomes for our clients.

Dennis Neal  "The chaos of the day" ... love that comment.  I think it's that chaos that has driven me for 20 years this summer.  I love working towards positive outcomes.

Welcome back, Cara! I love your post about interruptions. As smooth as all parties would love for transactions to be, in the real world, there are almost always twists and turns, and bumps in the road. The interruptions let you know you're doing something!!!

Good morning Cara. As a managing broker for many years, interruptions were my opportunity to prove my worth, so I lived for them. Sometimes it looked like chaos in my office but at the end of the day it was all worth it. Enjoy your day.

Hello Cara - I don't know how I "missed" this post but, I did so I am glad it was included with Kathy's weekly selection today.  I believe you "speak" for many who wonder about disruptions.  You're right, such interruptions are our lives.  At least in some aspect.  A ponder-worthy post.

Thank you Michael Jacobs. It's been a while since a thought manifested and I quickly sat down to write.  I miss those days, but it's been harder to find time to ponder in the past while.  A worthy goal...

Hello Hannah Williams   Years ago, I'd often find it was suddenly hours after I'd sat in front of my computer between great blogs, even greater comments and the worthy affirmations that are such a part of Active Rain.

I agree with you analysis Cara!  Just yesterday one of my top agents had the real estate agent from he!! day!  3 transactions that were messed up by inspectors or lenders changing their original agreements.  Just part of the game.  I do so like texts so that we have a "paper" record and 2 of these had documentation that proved us correct.  The third involves an agent who's husband is an inspector and he has killed more than one deal with us by the recommendations he has given his wife to write into an addendum including this one just this weekend.  He is wrong but will never admit it I am sure.
