Sometimes Buying Real Estate Is The Wrong Answer
Considering a home purchase around Destin Florida in 2025? If so, I would love to help you find the right home and guide you to the closing table. Over the last 17 years of practice, I have identified a few scenarios where purchases real estate (or much of anything really) should be put on pause. Let's take a look.
1) If money is tight--Sure most of us need to live on a budget. But if credit cards are what allows you to eat the fourth week of each month now is not the time to buy. Get that credit card debt under control first!
2) When your partner HATES the home-- Wanting a stress filled awkward closing? Go ahead and "force" your partner into signing on something he/she would have passed on.
3) If your job status is uncertain--I once (in another market) helped a person buy a home. During our discussion he mentioned his company downsizing. Did he think he was safe I asked? He replied, who knows? Three weeks after closing the news no new home owner wants arrived...
4) If your relationship is on rocky ground--About the only worse thing a sparring couple could do is buy a puppy. "Stuff" or cute puppies rarely heal relationships. Dividing cash in a savings account is FAR easier than figuring out a property equity buyout for your former partner. Just wait. Divorcing and NEED a place to live? Talk to your attorney and let him/her give legal guidance before we house hunt.
