NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY: February 7, 2025
Help Wipe Out The "Silent Killer" Of Women By Going Red For Women Today!
"There is a shade of red for every woman."
... Audrey Hepburn
Heart disease doesn’t always announce itself with warning signs—it often creeps in unnoticed, making it the leading cause of death among women. That’s why raising awareness among women is so crucial. As part of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women® campaign, the first Friday of each February—this year, February 7, 2025—is recognized as National Wear Red Day.
So why not listen to Audrey Hepburn... find your shade of red and wear it today on National Wear Red Day For Women.
This day serves as a powerful reminder that cardiovascular disease is not just a men's health issue. In fact, it’s the number one killer of women, taking more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined. Despite this, many women remain unaware of their risk, and because symptoms can be subtle or even absent, heart disease has earned its chilling nickname: the "Silent Killer."
How Much Do You Know About Cardiovascular Disease In Women? Did You Know:
- Cardiovascular disease in the U.S. kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds?
- Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of new mothers and accounts for over on-third of maternal deaths or that Black women have some of the highest maternal mortality rates?
-
Heart disease and strokes kill one in three women every year and that approximately 57.5% of total stroke deaths are in women?
-
The American Heart Association says nearly 50% of American adults have some form of heart disease? Some 60 million American women suffer from some form of heart disease!
- Awareness that heart disease is their leading cause of death declined substantially in the last decade, from 65% of women being aware in 2009 to just 44% being aware in 2019.
- Women are often less likely to receive bystander CPR because rescuers often fear accusations of inappropriate touching, sexual assault or injuring the victim?
Fortunately, since 2004 when National Wear Red Day was introduced, great strides have been made in raising awareness that heart disease and strokes are the number one disease affecting women.
