Super Bowl: Cat-astrophic Or Purr-fect? Felines Weigh In!

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty 179530

EVER WONDERED HOW CATS REALLY FEEL ABOUT SUPER BOWL?

Whether you're a devoted cat lover or just curious, this video gives you a hilarious peek into what our feline friends truly think about Super Bowl Sunday—and our obsession with it! From the baffling excitement over a ball that isn’t even meant to be chased to the endless human distractions pulling attention away from their rightful throne (your lap), cats have plenty of opinions. After watching, you'll paws-itively never look at game day the same way again—because let’s face it, to them, it’s just another excuse for a long, undisturbed nap… or so they hope!

THE SUPER BOWL THROUGH A CAT'S EYES

If you've been thinking about getting yourself a really smart cat, who'd enjoy watching the Super Bowl game with you, I'd like to introduce you to some very smart (and lovely) cats temporarily residing at The Charlotte Humane Society, patiently waiting for their fur-ever homes.

As someone once said: "no home is complete without the pitter patter of kitty feet."

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 that's a bummer, Ed. I can't tell you how much pleasure my cats have brought to my life since I was just 5 years old. BTW, I'm also allergic to bad clients.

Hello Nina - I am impressed.   You have spun quite the yarn combining the power of felines along with what many consider the most important of events in this country.  And, doggone, it's not really that far-fetched.   Hey, isn't there some kind of puppy playoff of some sort today too?

Michael Jacobs LOL, Michael! Your comment had me laughing from the start! And yes, I believe there's usually a puppy bowl on Super Bowl Sunday.

Nina, normally my kitties are within a foot of me when watching tv on the couch, but will be in the media room, probably with the volume too high for them.   I probably won't see them after 4:30.

Feb 09, 2025 10:28 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Joan Cox what! You have a media room? So fancy! I just sit on my bed and watch. :)

Feb 09, 2025 11:37 AM
Joan Cox

Nina Hollander, Broker downstairs I have a huge room with surround sound, and a wet bar.   I bought a 70" TV, and that is where I watch games and sometimes movies.

Feb 09, 2025 01:23 PM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Joan Cox I didn't know there was such a thing as a 70 inch TV. Will need to check it out next time I'm in Denver.

Feb 09, 2025 01:48 PM
Joan Cox

Nina Hollander, Broker they have much larger ones available now.   Over 120", can't even imagine.   I could probably put an 85" down there and still wouldn't look too big.

Feb 09, 2025 02:41 PM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Joan Cox even when I go to movies, I have to sit pretty far back because my eyes have a hard time with the large screen and the light from it. I have to think when you get into those giant screens you really need a big room to sit far enough away.

Nina Hollander, Broker   I honestly don't know how you can score a place on the AR hit parade with a topic like this.  I am jealous.  But I am writing because I care less about the football show, and only to needle friends who think the Chiefs are God's gift to humanity.

Actually, I am responding because of the cat thing.

I was left with three and one survived.  She was buddies with the previous cat who had too many fleas.

I don't even know its name.  It seemed feral and I was sad that it was left alone, so I let her in the house and little by little she literally became attached to me.  She insists on sitting on my lap every chance possible to get a rubbing which puts her into some nirvana state of mind.

Of course I am allergic to cats and her stinky droppings are a nuicance, and her marking territory in here.  Ackk.

But I have a little doggie who absolutely can't get along and they have to be cordoned off from each other.

Now, if I wrote THAT and added it to the super bowl, would I get a spot on the AR Hit Parade?  All true.

John Henry, Florida Architect oh gosh, John... you are just too funny! I had no idea I was on the AR hit parade! Shelter pet adoption is one of my pet causes (no pun intended). So I always look for an excuse to tie in an event like Super Bowl or a holiday with a call to action for adoption.

In addition to the above, I must say that the Taylor Swift thing has gotten WAY OUT OF HAND.  WHO CARES.  But that's just me.  And some guy named Kelce wears lavender shoes while everyone else is in red or white.  Great team spirit.  AND: there's another player who is some kind of self perceived fashionista.  What??!!  This is football, not Peyton Place. Oh, you younger folks need to do a google search.

John Henry, Florida Architect I am so with you, John. I hardly knew what Taylor Swift looked like until she hooked up with Kelce. Of course, I am early baby boomer born in the 1940's... so I'm of the Elvis, Beatles, and Stones generation! PS I have no idea about the fashionista player. The last one I remember is Joe Namath. (Now I've really aged myself!)

We presently only have one cat in our family.   A 6-year old spayed female.  She is sweet, loving, likes to play, and is good at chasing mice (and sometimes birds).   We need to get her a friend, or friends.  Cats are pack animals, they need companions, they should be in a pride.

Great cats who have ruled our household include Bonus Boy (an odd-eyed British White Shorthair), Aunt Marge (Siamese), Nightclub (black cat), Mr. Henry Pearson (very large black cat), the White Tiger (fluffy mostly Persian, with black and white colors), the Happy Cat (tortoise shell), Dexter Wonzel (Himalayan), Mickey (Himalayan), Stripe (tortoise shell), Spot (gray tabby), Red Kitty (orange tabby), Mrs. Lloyd (gray tabby, today she lives with our former neighbors in Shell Point Florida).  And several kittens (children of Red Kitty) who we found good homes for!

Hi again Nina Hollander, Broker

More stories about our cats, and advice for those who adopt cats:

All of the cats in our household came from the animal shelter, or they were "dumpster cats", or they came from my veterinarian ("Mr. Griffin, we have two orphaned cats, they are brothers, they need a good home, Dr. Hale thought you might want to take them in").

My cats are all indoor/outdoor.  I want them to live a cat's life, not be declawed or cooped up inside the house.  Yes, there is a risk of a dog attack, or they could get hit by a car (never happened), but I would rather they live free.

The cats' diet was half dry food, half wet food, and lots of water.

They only went to the vet when they were sick or had a fever.  Based upon the advice of my father's cousin, a veterinarian, who believed that the first rabies shot was good enough for life, our cats  never got any vaccines or rabies shots after their initial "kitten" vaccinations (exception, we had to board a couple of the cats when we took a long out of state trip, the boarding place required current rabies tags, those cats took the extra shots).

My longest-lived cats were Aunt Marge, she lived to the age of 21, Bonus Boy was age 20, Mr. Henry Pearson was age 18 at his passing, and the Happy Cat was 16 years old.

All of those orphans/strays/homeless cats showed their appreciation with much love, and of course the occasional gift of a dead mouse, dead snake, or dead bird!

Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate hi Fred... my cats were generally shelter cats, as well... unless I was gifted a cat. Mine however, were all indoor cats... couldn't really make them indoor/outdoor cats in NY City and Paris! But none of them ever complained. They had a very good indoors life. As for vaccinations, once I adopt a cat here, it's registered by the vet and I have to account for annual vaccinations with the county.

Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate good morning, Fred... I love reading the history of the cats in your family. I also have a long history with long-lived cats in my life. Each and every one was special in his or her own way.

Hi Nina,

What a purr-fectly timed and claw-ver post to pawsitively promote cat adoption and the Super Bowl! Adorable kitties and pupperonis always bring out the meow-giggles. Some of us know how much we love having our feline overlords wrap us around their little toe beans!

I'm having a paw-some time with this cat-tastic kitty-talk, but it's driving Grammarly fur-mously nuts since it keeps nudging me to add purr-fect, pupperonis, and meow-giggles to the dictionary! Haha, talk about ameow-zing word troubles! 🐱🤣
