Super Bowl Party Twist: Crab Cheeseball Recipe

While Buffalo Chicken Dip is often the star of Super Bowl parties, this year, I’m switching things up and serving one of our family’s favorite appetizers: a Crab Cheeseball! It’s creamy, savory and perfect for dipping, offering a delicious twist on traditional game day snacks.

This crab cheeseball is always a crowd-pleaser, combining rich cream cheese with lump crab meat, a hint of seasoning, and a crunchy coating of nuts. It’s simple to make, yet elegant enough to impress your foodie guests.

If you’re looking to break away from the usual Super Bowl fare, this dish is the perfect addition to your spread. It pairs beautifully with crackers, fresh veggies, or even toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Crab Ball Recipe

8oz Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened

½ pound crab meat, drained

1 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice

1/4 tsp celery flakes

1/4 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp Old Bay seasoning

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

½ - 3/4 cup Chili or cocktail sauce

3 T Parsley or green onion (or a combination of each), chopped

1 T Pistachios, chopped

Ritz or Club crackers

In a large bowl combine the cream cheese, crab meat and add celery flakes, garlic powder and Old Bay seasonings, Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice.

Mix by hand, forming a ball. Then, roll in chopped green onion or parsley, coating well OR sprinkle over the formed cheese ball. Sprinkle with chopped pistachios. Place on serving plate, pour chili or cocktail sauce over cheeseball and arrange crackers around the ball and serve.

*Note: You can also serve fresh veggies or toasted baguettes in lieu of the crackers

Bōn appétit!
