Motivational Monday…Words
My Mini-me was over recently and we were discussing words. She’d mentioned chocolate cake and I responded…That’s one of my favorite words!!!
She gave me a quizzical look and said…you mean you like to eat chocolate cake!
I responded…Well, yes I do but I love to hear the words chocolate cake. Certain words have a nice ring to them and fond memories.
She asked me what other words I love to hear and the first one that popped out of my head was JOY.
“...a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.”
Another one is KINDNESS…
“…the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.”
Then it occurred to me that I talk a lot about the words I like to hear. What about the words I’m not fond of? Just for fun, I thought about those words…
Snarkiness-having a rudely critical tone or manner
Condescending- showing or characterized by a patronizing or superior attitude toward others
Arrogance-an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions
Words make a difference and as my high school principal used to say…A word said is a word dead. You can’t take it back.
Words, attitude and intent…careful when you mix them together.
A recipe crafted with a handful of understanding, a cup of kindness, and a pinch of acceptance will create a dish that’s cherished and enjoyed by all.
But if the ingredients include a dash of arrogance blended with a bowl of condescension, the result is a volatile mix—one that leaves a bitter aftertaste, spoiling the experience. In the end, the dish is discarded and forever avoided.
