MVA MOBILE OFFICE

Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. - 1:45 p.m., Clubhouse II parking lot  

The MVA’s Mobile Office returns with services including renewal of non-commercial driver’s licenses and issuance of Maryland photo identification cards. Appointments are required, which you can schedule with your Leisure World ID in the Clubhouse II Lifestyle office.  

 

TACO TUESDAY 

Tuesday, Feb. 11, at noon, Clubhouse I  

Join the Rossmoor Women’s Club for a lively Taco Tuesday buffet featuring a festive Mexican theme, entertainment, and chances to win exciting gift baskets. LECTURE: PARANORMAL BELIEFS

Why do so many people embrace paranormal beliefs despite their contradictions to scientific principles? William Sypher explores the psychological and cultural reasons behind these beliefs in an engaging presentation. Sponsored by the Center for Lifelong Learning. SPEAKER DISCUSSES BUS LINE

Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. Clubhouse I

Corey Pitts, manager for transportation policy and planning for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, speaks about how bus lines are scheduled, as well as traffic signal timing continuing in place. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Free; registration not required.

 

CPR DEMONSTRATION   

Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m., Clubhouse I 

Learn how to save a life as the Montgomery County Community Emergency Response Team demonstrates how to perform hands-only CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Sponsored by the Emergency Preparedness Committee. The demonstration is free and open to all residents; registration is not required.

 

MOVIE: ‘GRACE OF MONACO’

Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium

This biographical drama depicts Grace Kelly’s transition from Hollywood icon to Princess of Monaco, as she navigates political intrigue and personal struggles in her royal life. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II.

 

HISTORY OF THE BOLO

Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m., Clubhouse II

A collector discusses the history of the bolo tie in his presentation, “All Tied Up With Bolos." Sponsored by the Gem, Lapidary and Mineral Society. Free; registration not required.

 

LIBRARY RAFFLE

Through Friday, Feb. 14, Clubhouse I library

Rossmoor Library holds a raffle fundraiser for a gift basket that includes gift cards from Kohl’s, Panera Bread, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Avalon Nails and Giant. Raffle tickets are $4 for one ticket and $10 for three tickets.  Proceeds go toward the purchase of books.

 

VALENTINE’S DAY CONCERT 

Friday, Feb. 14, at 2:30 p.m., Clubhouse II 

Celebrate love with violinists Janet and Gregory Kuperstein as they perform classical and popular love songs for Valentine’s Day. Tickets are $10 and available at the Lifestyle office in either clubhouse

 

CAFÉ AIM

Friday, Feb. 14, from 6-8 p.m. (snacks begin at 5 p.m.), Clubhouse I Crystal Ballroom

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with vocalist Renee Georges and pianist Vince Edwards as they pay tribute to music legends Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. Tickets are $35 (check only, payable to AIM) and are available at the Lifestyle office in Clubhouse I.

 

GRILLE MUSIC    

Friday, Feb. 14, from 7-10 p.m., Clubhouse I Grille  

Take a semi-acoustic trip with 2nd Sole Band, who play everything from rock to blues to Motown. Enjoy appetizers and dinner from the kitchen, accompanied by your picks from the fantastic wine, whiskey and cocktails menu.

 

MOVIE: ‘THE PIANO LESSON’ 

Sunday, Feb. 16, at 2:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium 

This gripping drama based on August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, explores family legacy, identity, and the struggle between preserving history and embracing the future. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II.

 

MOVIE: ‘THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT’  

Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium  

Starring Kerry Washington, this film tells the true story of the all-Black, all-female 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, who defied the odds to clear a massive mail backlog for U.S. troops during World War II. Sponsored by LWAAAC. Free, but registration is required by logging onto (lwaaac.com) or calling Sandy Henderson at (202-730-5130) by Friday, Feb. 14.

 

BIRDS AND SANCTUARIES 

Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 9:30 a.m., Clubhouse I

Alan Nelson, project manager for the Leisure World golf course's Audubon certification, discusses the positive effects of the Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses and ways to support the bird population at Leisure World. Sponsored by the Purple Martin Club. Free; no registration required.

 

PASTA MAKING DEMONSTRATION

Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m., La Speranza Restaurant – Rockville

 A pasta-making demonstration is followed by a delicious luncheon featuring a selection of classic Italian entrees. A non-alcoholic beverage is included. Sponsored by the Italian Social and Cultural Club. The cost is $20 (tax and tip included) for both members and nonmembers. Reservations must be made by Friday, Feb. 14. JAZZ TRIO

Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium

Enjoy an evening of jazz standards and bossa nova from the Great American Songbook as J Train Jazz Trio performs classics by George and Ira Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and Antônio Carlos Jobim, with a mix of pop and blues. Tickets are $15 per person and available at the Lifestyle office in either clubhouse.
