I enjoyed this post written by Buzz Mackintosh this week and thought much about the word “matchmaker” afterwards. (Plus, I’m singing the song incessantly now…) https://activerain.com/blogsview/5878517/match-maker-match-maker--make-me-a-match--find-me-a-find
Years ago I was fortunate to meet Betty, a new agent to our Real Estate Office at the time. I found her to be a strong, positive force. Over the beginning months, we grew to know each other a bit more as we both ended up on our Branch Agent Council – a group put together to help the office bridge gaps and answer questions and concerns.
One memorable afternoon that first year, she stopped in while I was “on call” for visitors to the office, and she got talking about her “life story”. The parallels were uncanny, and the life choices very similar, although she and I had vastly different personalities.
It quickly became apparent that I did not want to be her “competition” in real estate regarding the local market. I thought we would be stronger, and more successful together. I proposed “marketing together” to the prospects we would meet attending local events, getting involved in the Chamber of Commerce, and even sharing office time. We never WORKED together as a team, just evolved into a friendly, professional relationship.
It’s been about 13 years, and we now co-partner and manage our Real Estate office of the Golden Girls with SW Desert Homes, here in Tucson, AZ. When we prospect as a team, it’s quickly apparent whom our clients gravitate towards and we formulate our decision-making through that.
Betty is gregarious and extroverted. I’m more quiet, analytical, and introverted. We’re also both great at being weird. Our business is run jointly, and yet we are independent professionals.
Betty is loyal, committed to a fault, and tenacious about taking the best care of her clients.
She has called me protective, loyal, and ethical – which are assets I find in her as well.
So back to Buzz’s blog posting after the song, “Matchmaker, Matchmaker”, I do believe there was some matchmaking involved in our meeting, and I’m thankful for that beyond words.
As we wrap down many years of Real Estate over the next while, I’m grateful for the opportunity to do so alongside my trusted ally and friend, Betty Covey.
(yes, we were skipping)
Valentine's Day marks our 3rd year at our brokerage, The Golden Girls with SW Desert Homes.
