That's how the light gets in.

That's how the light gets in.

Recently, a quote left me profoundly touched. It was of few words, succinct and to the point and left me contemplating the spritual meaning behind the author's intent, as to why it was written. After giving it much thought, it reminded me that at our most vulnerable, do we heal.

"There is a crack, a crack in

everything. That's how the

light gets in." - Leonard Cohen.

Researching further uncovered these words that were written by Leonard when struggling but knew that Anthem stood for something clear and strong within his soul. Words are powerful, especially when meant to grab empathetic hearts, to share a troubled past or to simply inspire.

Anthem

The birds they sing, at the break of day.

Start again, I heard them say.

Don’t dwell on what has passed away.

Or what is yet to be.

Yes, the wars, they will be fought again.

The holy dove she will be caught again.

Bought, and soul, and bought again.

The dove is never free.

Ring the bells that still can ring.

Forget your perfect offering.

There is a crack, a crack in everything.

That’s how the light gets in.

We asked for signs.

The signs were sent.
The birth betrayed.

The marriage spent. Yeah, the widowhood of every government.

Signs for all to see.

I can’t run no more, with that lawless crowd.

While the killers in high places say their prayers out loud.

But they’ve summoned, they’ve summoned up a thundercloud.

They’re going to hear from me.

Ring the bells that still can ring.

Forget your perfect offering.

There is a crack, a crack in everything.

That’s how the light gets in.

You can add up the parts; you won’t have the sum.

You can strike up the march, there is no drum.

Every heart, every heart to love will come.

But like a refugee.

Ring the bells that still can ring.

Forget your perfect offering.

There is a crack, a crack in everything.

That’s how the light gets in.

- Leonard Cohen.

Being seen, rather than isolating, accepting and embracing imperfections encourages a connection to something larger than ourselves. Just as someone might be consumed with grief, resistance impedes darkness. Resist. Look for enlightenment, it's there awaiting discovery.

Allow in the light, every day.

Cohen was a word wizard but refused to dissect the meaning behind them once written. My son posted just the quote, "There is a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." - Leonard Cohen and it spoke loudly, Dennis Neal

Am always curious about quotes and their origins, Hannah Williams. Had no idea, there was a bigger part of this one, until digging a bit and realized that he was a poet, singer-songwriter.

So interesting!

Cohen wrote and sang the iconic song, Hallelujah. The words read as a poem but are very powerful, George Souto. He was quite the lyricist!

Yes, that quote left me wondering about the many reasons why it might have been written, Kathy Streib. It is definitely based on the human condition and complex emotions and vulnerability.

Let in the light!
