Happy Presidents Day 2025

Happy Presidents Day 2025!!! Today is Presidents Day, and for most workers in the U.S. a day off from work.  Presidents Day was not always been known as Presidents Day, in fact up until 1968 there was no Presidents Day.

Presidents Day was originally known as Washington's Birthday, and established in 1885 by President Chester Arthur.  Later many states decided that Abraham Lincoln was equally a great President, and started to celebrate his birthday as well.

In 1968 Congress decided that both days should be combined into one Holiday, celebrated on the third Monday of February, and call it Presidents Day.  Today few remember the two separate celebrations in honor of Washington and Lincoln, and think that it is in honor of all Presidents, and special Sales Promotions.

Today will be an off day for me, and after the snow, freezing rain, and rain after that, I can really use the recuperation time from shoveling.  I hope the rest of you get to enjoy a day off as well, and take the opportunity to spend quality time with your family, and honor  these two great Presidents.

Happy Presidents Day 2025!!

Good morning, George... enjoy your Presidents Day off. As a kid, we had both Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays off... I kind of miss that.

Good morning George. Call it old age but I remember having both days off when I was in grammar school in the bastion of education, the Chicago Public School System. That said, in those days the teachers actually taught and your presence was more than daycare. Those were the days. Enjoy your day.

George Souto  I do remember having both Washington's and Lincoln's day to enjoy when I was a kid and somewhere along the way it got lost.

I appreciate the history lesson on Presidents Day and the reminder of the snow and work it takes to deal with, George Souto. Have a fantastic, relaxing day off; you deserve it!

Happy Presidents Day, George! Love the history lesson—you’ve made me look at the day a bit differently now! Who knew Presidents Day went through such a transformation? Also, I totally feel you on the need for a break after all that snow and ice. Hopefully, you get a chance to relax and recharge. Here's to a day full of family, reflection, and maybe even a little less shoveling! Stay warm and enjoy your day off!

I didn't really do anything to celebrate President's Day, other than try to go to the post office only to find out it was closed, haha.

George Souto - the schools I went to always celebrated Lincoln's Day and George Washington's Day. Those were days that enriched a child's as they dug into the history books.

When they combined the two days to President's Day it was good for me because the date often fell on my son's birthday, which happens to be today, on February 19!
