Celebrate the Day…Become a RAKtivist*

This is one of my favorite days and topics…it’s Random Acts of Kindness Day.

Most of you will agree that this day needs to be an Everyday Kind of Day…and I agree.

What would life be if kindness did not exist?  No one saying “hello” to you…every person for themselves…those who need assistance with medical or housing concerns having no place or no one to turn to…

Always be a little kinder than necessary.
J.M. Barrie

Consequently, think of a world where kindness was the norm!

If you want to lift yourself up, lift
someone else up.

Booker T. Washington

What about being kind to fellow ActiveRain members?

~Welcome new members

~Reblog someone’s post

~Call or text a member when you like a post they wrote.

~Missing a member? Contact them and see how they are!

The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.
William Wordsworth

The list is long and infinite of the kindness we can show others and that includes ourselves.

~A thumbs up or pat on the back

~A call to check on a friend

~Taking cookies or cake to a friend or neighbor

~Saying “hello” to strangers

If you want to, share acts of kindness you’ve experienced recently!!

Doug Rogers I know what you mean. When we first moved to FL, I very kindly suggested to a lady in the grocery store who had her purse sitting open in the cart that she might want to hold on to it. She looked at me like I was nuts.

Love your Blog Kathy Streib I so agree with your blog and with the comments that have already been shared.   Hold a door...help someone with their empty shopping cart...letting the turning vehicle in line get ahead of you.

The other day my neighbors were gone out of town for a few days and I blew the snow off their driveway.  He called at 9:30 the night they got home to thank me...which was not necessary...but I am glad he did.

Have a great Day!  Time to go move more snow soon.   m

Thank you Mike McCann Nebraska Land Broker You're "good people."  And I know you blew the snow off your neighbor's driveway because you would hope someone would do it for you and more importantly...it was the KIND thing to do!!!

Good luck tomorrow.

I was wondering what a RAKtivist is, and now I know! We should strive to be one every day!

Kat Palmiotti I wasn't sure either, until I went to the website. I've never considered myself any kind of   " __tivist" but a RAKtivist is something I could get behind.

The opportunities are out there if we see them.  Just walking through the grocery store parking lot there is usually someone finishing up loading their car with their purchases, offering to take the empty cart (even when you don't need one) almost always puts a smile on their face.

Liz and Bill Spear believe it or not...I had that happen to me yesterday!  The cart rack wasn't that far but it was kind of him to take it.  There was a lone walker years ago who always looked down at the boardwalk when he walked. I tried saying "Good morning" to him but no replay. I kept it up and finally got him to respond  with a "Good morning"

Then one day, I passed him but my mind was elsewhere...he stopped and said "good morning" first!!!

Hello Kathy - acts of kindness can be of the simplest of kinds.  A thoughtful gesture or a kind word need not be expensive.  As Bill Liz and Bill Spear commented, such things are "out there" for each of us to participate regularly.

Feb 17, 2025 06:41 AM
Kathy Streib

Michael Jacobs Most of us are wrapped up in our thoughts and can forget that others are around us. There's always someone who may need a hand with their groceries or taking in someone's garbage can.

Big activist on people being "RAKtivist".  There is so much negativity in the world we need to shine our lights all of the time.  Thanks for posting and I hope that you have a fabulous week!

Hi Norma J. Elkins I agree! There's so much negativity and often, it receives most of the attention.

Hi Kathy,

Kindness represents showing compassion, empathy, and understanding toward others. It involves genuine acts of goodwill, no matter how small, and creates a ripple effect of positivity in relationships and communities.

The power of giving is an underestimated sentiment. It does not only benefit the recipient but also the giver.

Feb 17, 2025 09:36 AM
Kathy Streib

Aura Alex it's the ripple effect you mention that makes an act of kindness so powerful!!!  To your point, being kind could be considered selfish because it does make us feel so good.

Lew Corcoran Thank you!!! But for a small percentage of people, most of us want that pat on the back or smile from someone. I still smile when someone holds the door open for me.
