Helping Buy and Sell Dream Home Brings Me Joy

I was asked a straightforward question: Why do I love what I do? Helping people find the home of their dreams gives me joy. I have been in the business for over forty years and have helped many people and made many friends.

This business is forever changing, as are the market conditions. I have seen Seller's Markets and Buyers' Markets. I remember when, one day, the market just crashed along with the banks. I met a young social media guy at our office, and we were all going to a Real Estate Bar Camp (no, it wasn't a Bar ) to meet socially. We met bloggers. I met and Margaret Woda also Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400   who are members of Active Rain. Some are no longer active, so I decided to join  ActiveRain. Smartest thing I ever did as I learned so much. You see, many of us were going broke. Active Rain was free advertising then, and we learned so much. Thanks, team. Many sellers were underwater and doing loan Modifications. It was a very tough market for a while, but it passed, and we survived. I am eternally grateful for all I learned.

 

You see, I love people. I have, however, learned that respect needs to be given. I always have an initial meeting with my buyers in the office with a mortgage banker so they know what documents to bring. This way, they know exactly what it costs them and are pre-qualified. They know what to do if there is a problem, and we are ready to look at homes. They also understand that it is my belief they will get a feeling inside when it is the right house for them, and I will never pressure them unless they do get that feeling, and the agent on the other end says they need to make a decision or they will lose it. My philosophy is that if you lose a house, another house says wait for me.

  

As long as I have been in the business, I have made many friends with other agents. You also built a good reputation; I have been lucky to have done this. I love it when an agent says I know I will not have any problems if I close your deal. As a listing agent, when I receive an agreement many times, I hear I know you are fair. My brother is a mortgage broker or an agent and says you have a good reputation, which is essential in this business. The same applies when an appraiser goes out on one of my listings. They often call me for information, and I return their calls. They tell me many agents do not return their calls, and they are thankful.

 

As a listing agent, I love competing with other agents and getting the listing. There is no better feeling when we get a big hug from the seller when we get the signed agreement with the price and terms they are happy with.

Most of my sellers and buyers return to me, which makes me so happy. Whether it is to buy, sell, or ask me questions, it is my pleasure.

Good morning, Hannah... loved your post. When a client "loses" out on a home, I always say "there's always a home out there with your name on it." As for making friends in this business with other agents... I've long said that I don't consider other agents my competition... they are my colleagues... and I treat them that way. Over the past 30+ years that's paid off big.

Hello Nina Hollander, Broker  I was thinking about an adorable couple I had while writing this post. I told them that they would get a feeling inside when it was the right house. After seeing several homes on the second day, he called to me from the back seat and said, " when am I going to get this feeling?" The next house we saw we walked in he looked at me and said Hannah, I have that feeling.

Kat Palmiotti Unfortunately, I worked with a man who passed away. He would sit in his office, and you could hear him repeatedly saying, "I hate people," when you walked by. He was a sweet guy, but I learned you did not ask what was wrong when he was in that mood. Unless you wanted your head bit off

When taking buyers out, I enjoy showing them houses. Most of all, when they find the one that gives them that feeling -

Hello Michael Jacobs. It seems we never stop learning new forms, laws, ways of doing business, and what you can and can not say.  How do we get paid? I used to get a check, but now I get a direct deposit. Soon, we may not even have pennies. I think I will keep a jar in the kitchen. Something to ponder, Michael? maybe I will find that 1943 that I have been looking for

Kathy Streib John was a determined young man. His will to live was so strong. The day I heard of his car accident, and that he was taken from the car by the jaws of life, I thought it was the end. No, he continued to fight; we would visit him while he was in a coma. Miracles happen; he survived, met a nurse, fell in love, and married. Life was been good for him for the last few years, which has made me happy.   Sometimes, things are meant to be.

Thank you for your insightful post. Paragraph FOUR struck home with me. I can't tell you how many times agents comment that they are glad I'm on the other side of the transaction because they know it will be a smooth process. Reputation among our peers goes a long way toward getting our offers accepted and getting to the closing table with the least amount of problems.

Many people in the neighborhood also gave their time, as did friends and family. Let's not forget appraisers , title companies, mortgage co, and even local furniture companies gave to helo this young man achieve his dream

Jeff Dowler, CRS We talk after the sale, and it is essential to stay in touch. With each transaction, and I am sure you also find this true to be valid, we become very close to our clients as there are times we need to assure them that they are doing the right thing in purchasing a home. It is the largest purchase they have made in their lifetime, and they need someone to tell them everything will be alright. 

Their friends suddenly become experts and talk in their ears.
