What do I love about what I do as a Realtor®?
First off, I must say that I love visiting houses and to see what people have done with their houses and property. People can be so creative. And I love seeing old houses for their fine attention to detail with amazing handwork. In this area of SE PA, there are many old houses that have maintained these details and charm.
For the work itself as an agent, I love the fact that I am not a hardcore salesperson, even though that is what my state license might imply and what some people may think Realtors® are. I prefer to think of our work as being guides in the world of real estate, and that is what I love, being a guide.
When we were exploring whether to become Realtors®, we took advantage of a handful of learning opportunities, it was during the time when things were plentiful in 2003/2004. And I recall one recruiter sharing with us that her experiences as an agent taught her that she was not a hardcore salesperson, but someone who helps educate people on buying and selling real estate. Our role is to point things out so the seller and buyer can make an educated decision that is best for them, not to force our opinions onto someone so we can get to closing and get that commission check.
You see, I had never, ever thought of being a “salesperson” prior to Doug suggesting we should consider this profession. I was resistant at first, but my resistance relaxed to entering this field because of that shift in understanding of the role of Realtors®. Sure there are all types of agents, some probably very hardcore, pressure driven, but that is not me/us.
I truly enjoy gathering the information needed for each new potential client, and presenting those details to a buyer or seller so they can begin the process of moving forward on their goals in buying and/or selling real estate.
I also love hearing peoples’ stories and why they are doing what they are doing, since no two stories are ever alike.
Once we have an established a working relationship with clients, I enjoy guiding people along the way to get to closing. Sure there can be many bumps in the road, but I love the fact that we have earned the trust of our clients and they know they need our guidance/knowledge to get things done, and to me that makes the process of our work so worthwhile. Being a resource in helping others during an important change in their life’s journey is something I love.
The fact that we have long standing friendships with some past clients, and we continue to have repeat clients and referrals from past clients, is a real pat on the back that keeps me going in this ever changing world of real estate.
