Tuesday Pop Up! Shift Gears!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Retired Broker/Owner AZ Broker BR030809000

A couple of hours ago we stopped for a cup of coffee at local place.  Across the parking lot there used to be a Pop Up Mexican food restaurant. It was there last week and now it's gone!  Poof!  Gone! Which was kind of surprising as it always seemed very busy whenever we drove by it.  Now there's a big sign advertising a New York Deli-Style restaurant opening soon.

As we were in the parking lot of a group of about 8 or 10 motorcycle riders and their partners pulled up.  They got off their bikes and were wandering around wondering what happened to the Mexican Place. Clearly they all planned to meet there!  And as it's a beautiful mid-seventies day I'm sure patio seating was the plan.  But alas they had to 'shift' and figure out where else they could eat lunch.

So what's this got to do with real estate?  Well that seems easy to me!  You too probably if you've been in the business long enough.  How many times have you had to Shift Gears and make a new plan. I know, a lot, right!!

It's what successful brokers and real estate agents do well.  SHIFT GEARS!

So don't get all hot and bothered if things don't go as planned.  Simply focus on finding a new solution and shift gears.  Next!  Enjoy the ride!

Hello Anna - the message I receive from this post as it relates to real estate. Act now when a listing of a property for sale that meets most of your needs "pops up" --- it may be gone while you are mulling over your decision.  Poof!

Hi Michael Jacobs it sure could be that reason!  A few folks over the years didn't  'get that' and they did loose out on what they said was their prefect home.  On to the next......

That quick story about the restaurant totally nails the whole "shift gears" thing, Anna "Banana" Kruchten. Thanks for sharing that life lesson with us. It's a great reminder to stay flexible in real estate and everywhere else!

So important to have the 'skill' to shift and move on to the next...... Lew Corcoran !  Some folks get stuck on seeing things a certain way and there's no flexibility in that way of thinking. I see it as 'something' new to create!

Anna- excellent analogy!  Better break out the WD-40 if you're having trouble shifting gears!  When you work with people, things will always pop up that will cause you to have to adjust...to shift gears. Wonder where your pop up went???

Feb 18, 2025 05:42 PM
Anna "Banana" Kruchten

Hi Kathy Streib !!  I like that - break out the WD=40!  I couldn't have used that when I was teaching all these ideas to students!!  Nothing better than a can of WD 40 in  your bag, ready to be pulled out when needed!

It was odd that this place had this Pop Up because their main restaurant is just down the street a few blocks or so.    That's why I was so surprised they had it - and that it was so popular. Why they gave it up I don't know!  I'll have to ask them about it!

Anna, Yes it's all about enjoying the ride in the world of real estate.

I hope you two did some riding in those outfits!

Absolutely enjoy the ride Gloria Todor !   As for the outfits that was a for a chamber of commerce mixer at Harley Davidson a number of years ago.  We all had a blast wearing stupid 'biker' stuff.  I had fake 'tats' for my arms too!

Somewhere in the line of the try I was expecting something along the lines of 'I know where you can get food',  to come out.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 I thought that a few might walk over and ask us but nope, they didn't.   I think they figured out where the main restaurant was and they all head out together.

Good evening Anna,

I'd say 90% of our job is bring a problem solver! We have to shift gears on many an occasion and come up with a new plan!

I so agree Dorie Dillard Austin TX albeit I call it solution finding not problem solving.  Just me take on it!

Good morning Anna. When I was not personally shifting gears during my career, I shifted gears and trained others to shift gears. Guess I was a gearhead! Enjoy your day.

Exactly Wayne Martin we taught agents how to 'shift gears.  So I guess we were, and probably still are, gearheads!!

Good morning, Anna... I, for one, would be checking out that NY Deli once it opens! As for shifting gears... I've been doing it all of my adult life... that ability to shift gears is an important skill regardless of what one does for a living.

Totally Nina Hollander, Broker !  Doesn't make any difference what business or life situation knowing how and being willing to shift gears is so important!

Yes indeed, when things don't go as planned, shift to Plan B. Or C. Or however far you need to go.

That must have been disappointing to be headed for a place and poof, it was just gone!

Feb 19, 2025 05:38 AM
Anna "Banana" Kruchten

Hi Kat Palmiotti as I mentioned in a comment above I thought it as a bit odd they opened a 'pop up' because their main restaurant was just a few blocks down the road.  Apparently they did something right as the pop up was very busy!!

What the heck is a "Pop Up" restaurant Miss Anna "Banana" Kruchten ???🍌🍌🍌

I am guessing it is more like a food truck or someone who sets up an outdoor kitchen and sells "street food".

Regardless, I get the point. Yes, shift gears and enjoy the ride! 💛💙

Anna "Banana" Kruchten

Hi Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist !  Actually this place had been another restaurant that closed for whatever reason.  And the Mexican place decided it was a good idea to call it a Pop Up and they were very busy.  And.......they already had a very busy business down the street a few blocks or so.  I'll have to ask the 'why' of opening a pop up to the owners next time I go into their main restaurant.

Anna "Banana" Kruchten a big part of being successful in business and in our personal life is being able to adapt to the present situation (shift gears).  Life does not stand still, so neither can we.

Anna "Banana" Kruchten - shifting gears is something to be learned. Nothing is forever, especially when it comes to business. Our brains were made to be rewired, and we aways need to shift gears without getting our feathers ruffled.

It's a new day! New life! Time for shifting, turning around, and looking forward.

Are those really your tattoos??? If so, you're brave!

Feb 19, 2025 01:46 PM
Anna "Banana" Kruchten

Hi Patricia Feager LOL funny that you noticed the tattoos!  And No they were fake.  I bought them at the dollar store for all of us that were going to that mixer!  Kind of fun!

And yes to staying cool, calm and collected when we need to 'shift' our way of doing things or our way of thinking.  Do what works best, right!  Makes sense to me!!

Hi Anna,

This is a TRUE story!

Back in the day, I was practically a professional gear shifter—constantly switching gears like my life was an action movie. And don’t even start on those wild times when I mastered the art of driving on the wrong side of the road (in America). Talk about living on the edge!

These days, retirement has brought things to a screeching halt—I’m cruising in “neutral” now, happily parked with a glass of wine in hand, sipping slower than a snail on vacation. Cheers to the simple life!

Hey Aura Alex honestly I think a lot of us were 'gear heads' at a very young age.  When you've got that 'spark' it shows up big time!  And retired or not girlfriend you've got that 'spark'💛

Thanks for the feature in Old Farts!!

Hi Jeffrey Richman it never ends in read estate this shifting thing, does it! In all my years it sure didn't.....I think we just get better and better at it. And if we don't, well, find another career, right!!

Hi Anna:

That's a great analogy. Life, and the real estate business, often require us to shift gears...or suffer the consequences if you don't. A positive attitude and a new plan are far better than simply grousing about "what should have been."

Jeff

Oh, you are so right - in this business, pivoting is a daily thing - and I think that's why we love what we do, Anna! I hate the restaurant closed as we are seeing a lot of that here lately too.

Funny but, I was talking to my assistant yesterday - another assistant who was a BA for me for awhile could NOT pivot. ONE appointment a day is all she could handle (with one client, I should say) and if we tried to work another 'event' or anything into her day, it sent her into a tailspin! Needless to say, she didn't last too long in the biz!

Mar 09, 2025 01:21 PM
Anna "Banana" Kruchten

Debe Maxwell, CRS actually the restaurant had only been a POP UP, which is just temporary here. Their other restaurant a few blocks a way is packed all the time. Sorry to hear your places are closing.  Here they're opening up so many because this town and economy is  on fire.

Back to SHIFTING!   Oh that wouldn't work for me either.  We worked at break neck speed but looked calm - as I am sure you do as well.  Bring it on Sister!
