Friday Fun…Your Go To Dish?

A lot of us have experienced extremely cold weather this week. We began our morning walks with temps below freezing and hefty winds!

Thankfully, we don’t have that many freezing or below days so when we do, we want to make our go-to cold weather comfort dish.

For us, that’s chili with cornbread Larry makes in a cast iron skillet. The recipe calls for Jiffy cornbread mix and is so much better than the box alone.

What about you?  What’s your favorite dish to make (or eat) when it’s freezing cold out???

Not sure what to make…here are the Best Winter Recipes from every state.

Good morning Kathy. Must say it is hard to choose. Beef stew, chili or if we have a ham bone Navy Bean soup sounds good. As you can tell, I always eat hardy. Enjoy your day.

I love cornbread. My girlfriend eats almost no grains so I rarely have it because I would be eating it all myself.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty we've cut back on any kind of bread so we usually end up giving some away or freezing it!!! This is a great recipe.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 I came close to roasting a chicken this week so I could make homemade chicken soup. I'm sure it couldn't hold a candle to your mother-in-law's!!!

I've always loved soup....this week Rick and I each made a favorite. I made creamy spinach, potato and mushroom soup and Rick made a sausage vegetable soup. I love knowing we have lunch for the week we can just pop in the microwave.

Sharon Tara Your creamy soup sounds good!!! We both love spinach!!! And so does Rick's sausage vegetable soup!  I love to make homemade soup because it makes me feel as if I'm really cooking.

Rarely is it 'freezing' cold here in PHX but if it's cold for us I typically make a hearty soup or chili along with some corn bread. Always so nice to have it cooking all day long and have it make the house feel cozy and warm.  Yum!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten I could eat soup every single day of the year!!!  My grandmother made a tomato soup I loved.

Kathy I have a few, but my favorite is clam chowder with clam fritters.

George Souto New England or Manhattan??  I don't think I've ever had clam fritters.

Feb 21, 2025 05:53 PM
George Souto

Kathy, clam fritters are also know as clam cakes.  They are a corn dough and clam mixture, rolled into a ball, and deep fried.

As far as the clam chowder goes, I like the New England Clam Chowder best, followed by Manhattan Clam Chowder, and I DO NOT like the Rhode Island Clam Chowder at all.  ☺️

Hello Kathy, I was thinking the other night, as cooking a roast in the crock pot, those meals would soon be put away for the summer months.  But for now the winter dishes are definitely being enjoyed.  I may have to try this cornbread.  thx.  m

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho you can find Jiffy mix everywhere. This one takes 2 boxes but it's so much better than the recipe on the box.

I am glad that I was not one of those experiencing extremely cold weather and that I got to wear shorts and a t-shirt throughout the week, haha.

Looks wonderful, Kathy. We like a big pot of vegetable soup and sometimes a slow-cooker chicken white bean chili which is good, of course, any time of the year.

Left overs are always good the day after.  Keep the fridge clean and enjoy.  combine stuff if necessary and invent something new.
