♦1987: On March 2, the median price of a new U.S. home surpasses $100,000.

♦1983: The finale of M*A*S*H airs Feb. 28, setting a record for largest TV audience.

♦1917: Czar Nicholas II abdicates March 2, launching the Russian Revolution.

1873: Remington manufactures the first practical typewriters March 1 in Ilion, NY.

1827: New Orleans holds its first Mardi Gras celebration Feb. 27.

Good morning, Dorie. I had not realized that Mardi Gras in New Orleans was quite so old. MASH was one of my favorite shows of all time... never missed it. Sadly, we don't see many reruns of it today because it's not really politically correct by today's standards.

New Orleans has a bigger festival than usual in a couple of years.  If that is possible.  While visiting NOLA I visited a Mardi Gras building where old floats are stored as well as new ones being made for the following year.  This event, much like the Rose Bowl Parade is year round project of huge proportions.   m

Dorie I purchased the home I still live in now in 1981 for $57,500.  By 1987 the home price for the same home had increase to over $130,000
