Motivational Monday…What Did You Fail At?

My focus is usually on the positive…what’s good in our life, the positive acts of kindness we see. It has been a goal of mine to distance myself as much as I can from negative events and people.

So the question I ask above…”What did you fail at?” may seem like I’m taking a journey along the road to being negative.

Let me explain. I loved watching the dinner table scenes in the series Blue Bloods. (if you’ve never watched it…it’s was on CBS and more vanilla in flavor…unlike Dexter)

Once everyone went around the table saying what they failed at for the week. As one of the sons said…

“If you aren’t failing, you’re not trying, and if you’re not trying, you’re not living.”

It’s not that we need to grovel in what we’ve failed at, or rather didn’t succeed at. The point is that you can learn from all of your deeds or actions.

A few years ago, my great-nephew went to Wisconsin for a chess tournament. It was the first time he’d entered anything like it. He didn’t win the whole tournament but made it past several levels.

Upon his return and a celebration dinner, we were talking and I asked him what he learned from the trip or if there was anything he would do differently.

I was pleasantly surprised at his response..

“Next time, before I go, I’ll do more research as to what to expect.”

So I ask you…what did you fail at recently…and what did you learn from it?

I never lose.

I either win or I learn!

Good morning, Kathy... I come from the school of "failure not being an option."

Nina Hollander, Broker Failure to me is that I didn't try again, or get back up when "knocked down."  And, I don't give up.

Roy Kelley exactly,. No one is perfect. No one sets out to fail, but when we do, it's important that we learn from it.

Looking at our failures doesn't always have to be negative, especially since a lot of positive things can come from failure!

Brian England that's the way I choose to look at it. The failure comes in not learning from your mistakes or just giving up

Hi Kathy,

A great post indeed.  I was just talking to one of my oldest and best friends about what I needed to do to change because what I was doing wasn't working as well as I wanted it to.  Through discussing the failings of the system, we were able to work out together what, we believe will be better.

Your post is spot on.  We learn better success through the failures that we go through

Good morning Kathy,

There isn't one of us who haven't failed at something, even if we don't recognize it! LOL! I do believe in what Kat Palmiotti said "if we are not failing we are not learning something new!" No one does everything perfectly!

Good Morning, Kathy Streib  We resonate in a positive manner with that show for the way they demonstrate their character.

More so as the exterior shots of that house are of the Bishop of the Catholic church of our religion, and each time they show that shot, the church gets a stipend.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 when I watch it, I love that they, to me, show all sides and do not try to push something down our throats. I did not know that the church gets a stipend for each exterior shot. What I love about the dinner table scenes is it's a tradition that seems to be going away for many families.

Hi Kathy,
I loved those dinner scenes on Blue Bloods. I am anxious to see how the Boston Blue Bloods develops with Danny moving to Boston.

I've always been able to find lessons in failure. My recent illness taught me that I was (unknowingly) failing at taking care of myself. I learned more about how the lack of oxygen to my lungs are affecting the rest of my body and how to improve. I'm still a work in progress.

Carol Williams I just learned of the new show this weekend. I can't wait to see how it develops.

I'm glad you're taking care of yourself. I remember during the pandemic, Larry and I kept tabs on our oxygen levels.

Well let's see what have I failed at recently.  It's almost a joke around here now with al the plumbing issues we've had!  Not sure how I failed at it but maybe I did!  I knew enough to hire the right people. So that's a good thing.

As long as you learn from the experience it is never really a failure.

Having a positive attitude is always great advice!

Good morning Kathy. What others may call failure, I call learning lessons. And since I don't have time to make all the mistakes leading to a learning experience myself, I also learn from the mistakes of others. Nobody bats a 1,000 so it is a continuous journey. Enjoy your day.
