Motivational Monday…What Did You Fail At?
My focus is usually on the positive…what’s good in our life, the positive acts of kindness we see. It has been a goal of mine to distance myself as much as I can from negative events and people.
So the question I ask above…”What did you fail at?” may seem like I’m taking a journey along the road to being negative.
Let me explain. I loved watching the dinner table scenes in the series Blue Bloods. (if you’ve never watched it…it’s was on CBS and more vanilla in flavor…unlike Dexter)
Once everyone went around the table saying what they failed at for the week. As one of the sons said…
“If you aren’t failing, you’re not trying, and if you’re not trying, you’re not living.”
It’s not that we need to grovel in what we’ve failed at, or rather didn’t succeed at. The point is that you can learn from all of your deeds or actions.
A few years ago, my great-nephew went to Wisconsin for a chess tournament. It was the first time he’d entered anything like it. He didn’t win the whole tournament but made it past several levels.
Upon his return and a celebration dinner, we were talking and I asked him what he learned from the trip or if there was anything he would do differently.
I was pleasantly surprised at his response..
“Next time, before I go, I’ll do more research as to what to expect.”
So I ask you…what did you fail at recently…and what did you learn from it?
I never lose.
I either win or I learn!
