It's Just a Phone...Pick It Up
Real estate thrives on relationships, so talk with anyone interested in buying or selling. Find a way that is fun for you. You might be in the wrong field if it feels like a chore.
An eager agent wanted to boost their income with a tight budget and sought ways to attract more buyers and sellers. Many suggestions came in, most of which needed more funding than was available. It was time to get to work—to pound the pavement.
The best starting point is right in your hands: the phone. Open your address book and phone contacts and reach out to everyone you know—friends, family, neighbors, and former colleagues. Embrace the opportunity to have fun with conversations; any chat could lead to a new opportunity.
In my early days, I was taught to cold call potential clients. This involved picking a street from a directory and calling homeowners to see if they wanted to sell. That was not for me. I looked for different methods. Morning power walks on a local high school track became a way to engage with people, turning our stroll into what we called "mobile psychiatry." I also turned unsolicited spam calls into valuable practice opportunities.
I regularly engage with others through blogs and connections on ActiveRain, which has evolved into inspiring weekly Zoom meetings with colleagues nationwide. These interactions are part of my routine and spark new ideas to enhance my real estate practice.
Another way of using the phone is for my radio show, All About Real Estate.
This platform significantly expanded my audience, allowing me to share listings, assist buyers, and educate listeners effectively. On my show, I’ve featured various professionals, including Realtors®, attorneys, lenders, and stagers, and I welcome buyers and sellers to discuss their homes. After the show, buyers often call in while searching for a house and homeowners when they have questions on selling.
Whether making calls or answering them, it can help you build a solid network of business contacts and friendships.
So, remember, it’s just a phone. Pick it up!
