NATIONAL DRESS DAY: CELEBRATING TIMELESS CHARM & STYLE
My Personal Reflection On Wearing Dresses
"A dress is a piece of ephemeral architecture, designed to enhance the proportions of the female body."
... Christian Dior
National Dress Day is a annual celebration on March 6th, dedicated to honoring the elegance, timeless charm, and versatility of dresses. National Dress Day is a day to don our favorite dresses with pride.
I, for one, love wearing dresses. There is something inherently fun about putting on a dress. Whether it’s a flowing sundress that sways with the breeze or a sleek evening gown that exudes sophistication, each dress has its unique way of making me feel special. And then, for those of us who have worn a wedding dress, do we ever forget how special and beautiful we felt in our wedding dresses? Or how about our first formal gown? To this day, I remember my white confirmation dress at 13.
"Wearing the correct dress for any occasion is a matter of good manners."
... Loretta Young
I remember the days when pants were not acceptable in business settings. During that time, dresses were not just a fashion statement, but a necessity for professional women. I never found this limiting. For me dresses provided an avenue for expressing my individuality and style, something men could not do with their classic business suits.
These days, pants, trousers, and leggings have become the norm in many settings, making dresses a less common sight. This shift in fashion trends means that seeing a woman wear a lovely dress can make her stand out in a crowd. I once was hired to sell a home because I wore a dress to the listing appointment! The husband was totally blown away... his wife later told me that after I left their home, he kept saying to her "did you see her? She wore a dress!"
"Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it."
... Yves Saint Laurent
One of the most enjoyable aspects of wearing a dress is the myriad of styles and designs available. From classic A-line silhouettes to asymmetrical cuts, there is a dress for every occasion and mood. Playful patterns, vibrant colors, and delicate fabrics all add to the joy of wearing dresses.
"Look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress."
... Coco Chanel
Do you have any favorite dresses? I certainly do. I look forward to spring and summer when I can wear my favorite dresses. These warm seasons bring with them the perfect opportunity to showcase those lighter, more colorful dresses that have been tucked away during the colder months. There’s an undeniable pleasure in feeling gentle rustle of a dress as you move.
"Put even the plainest woman into a beautiful dress and unconsciously she will try to live up to it."
... Lucy, Lady Duff-Gordon
