Spring Forward? Grumpy Cat And I Would Rather Not...
Grumpy Cat And I Agree On One Thing: DST Must Go!
"Daylight time, a monstrosity in timekeeping."
... Harry S Truman
How much do I hate Daylight Saving Time? I ask myself this question every year... and every year, my answer remains the same: there simply aren’t enough words in the English language to capture my sheer hatred for it! I know I may be in the minority when I say I’d rather have my daylight in the morning than in the evening—but are we truly saving time? Or are we just shifting daylight from one part of the day to another?
"Daylight saving time—why are they saving it, and where do they keep it?"
... Anonymous
This morning, at 7:00 AM, it was still pitch dark! Why should the start of a new day feel like the middle of the night instead of a fresh beginning bathed in light? To me, there’s something downright uncivilized about it!
Grumpy Cat and I have been in full agreement on this—last year, the year before, and every single year before that. And guess what? This year is no different. We still hate, hate, hate Daylight Saving Time!
Science backs us up, too. Studies show it takes people three weeks to physically adjust to the time change, and in the days following the switch, there’s a significant increase in heart attacks, strokes, fatal car accidents, mood disorders, sleep problems, and even hospital admissions for irregular heartbeats. And for what? Even experts admit it doesn’t do much to save energy. One study estimated the economic costs of lost productivity and health impacts at anywhere from $400 million to $2 billion! Is all this disruption really worth preserving a tradition that started 106 years ago during World War I? Like Grumpy Cat, I say NO to Daylight Saving Time!
Have you heard? 56% of Americans dislike Daylight Saving Time. Americans report DST is most likely to worsen their sleep quality (46%), mood (43%) and mental health (36%). 17% of Americans claim daylight savings increases their bills by an average of 18%, while just 5% notice a decrease by an average of 13%.
"I don't mind going back to daylight saving time. With inflation, the hour will be the only thing I've saved all year."
... Victor Borge
And as for Grumpy Cat? Well, he has an even better reason for hating Daylight Saving Time—and honestly, who could argue with that?
I really hate not having light in the morning! Really, really hate it! Ok, that's my rant for Daylight Saving Time 2025. Since I don't have any control over Daylight Saving Time and the lack of morning light, I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it. But I don't have to like it! And neither does Grumpy Cat!
Grumpy Cat and I STILL agree...
... Daylight Saving Time is the WORST DAY EVER!
PS Did I happen to mention that I really, really hate Daylight Saving Time?
