Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

The single pane cartoons I feature by Timmothy Timm are strips that are actually submitted and printed in The Northern Sentry Newspaper (official newspaper of the Minot AFB). Timmothy basis these cartoons on something he read in the previous weeks paper.

The Amtrak Empire Builder runs from Chicago to Seattle daily and is the only Amtrak service Minot offers. The Timm family has made good use of this service to visit Tina Timm when she attended The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD).

With the many choices of ways to travel the Empire Builder is often a good choice. I think what I liked best is that you can carry a lot of luggage but in addition to that the seats are comfortable and the rates are reasonable.

If you are considering a trip I encourage you to consider Amtrak. I wish Minot had a North/South route so I could visit my friends in AZ and TX. Word has it that they may rebuild a route that used to go from Bismarck ND to TX. If they do I will heed the call of "All Aboard".

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .

Bob "RealMan" Timm - I am always happy to see you feature Timmothy Timm's cartoon strips. He has a great career ahead of him, thanks to the Norther Sentry Newspaper. Timm is very creative. I like his attention to details.

Thanks for the scoop about transportation between Chicago to Seattle with services in Minot. That's really cool to know! Making good use of the services to visit Tina when she was at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) must have made it easier to see her without driving, especially during winter months.

Timmothy's cartoon strips are what motivates me to post Patricia Feager . He gives me fresh ideas every day. I wish we could find more ways to promote his talent as I know it would bring more smiles about and America could use more smiles. ☺️

As far as the train service in Minot I wish there was more of it. We also have a Canadian Pacific Rail Road track in town and on rare occasion I will see a passenger car or two but they do not offer a service here. They do have a really cool Holliday Train that stops near Christmas that is all decked out and has performers that put on a show for an hour or two and then moves on down the line.

Good morning Bob. Knew there was train service available from Chicago to Seattle but did not know it was daily service of that it stopped in Minot. Never travelled long distance on a train, just a commuter from Chicago to the suburbs. Enjoy your day.

Hello Bob - while I don't recall seeing Planes, Trains and Automobiles in its entirety, I have used reference to it to make points of everyday life.  In that way reel life becomes reality in some ways.

Same here Michael Jacobs , I don't remember seeing it in it's entirety either but that may be because I was not a big Jon Candy fan. Love Steve Martin though.

I have been curious about the trains that go cross-country, but I have not ridden one myself, haha.

I can assure you that if we ever get a line that heads North and South I would certainly come see you and several other AR friends in the winter Brian England .

That train has a stop in Whitefish MT which is 1/2 hour-40 minutes from my house. Supposedly it's the busiest depot on that route!

Very interesting Kat Palmiotti . I just might have to hop on board and come visit. I'd love to see your crafting endeavor.

Good morning, Bob... I'm all about rail travel. Of course, I grew up on the NYC subways. My first long rail trip was with my mother from NY City to Toronto. I was hooked. When I worked for the Mars Corporation, rather than flying to headquarters from NY City to McLean, Virginia, I took Amtrak to DC. And I've travelled on countless trains all over Europe.

Nina Hollander, Broker I was wondering if there is a connecting route from Chicago to Charlette? That's a trip I'd really like to make. 💕

Bob "RealMan" Timm I doubt it, Bob... we are not well connected in terms off rail travel... but I could be wrong about that.

I love your enthusiasm for travel and the charm of the Empire Builder, Bob "RealMan" Timm! Your sense of adventure shines through, making train travel sound so inviting. Thanks for sharing your experiences—it definitely sparks a wanderlust in all of us!

Lew Corcoran I need to confess I had not rode a train until about a year ago but I did enjoy it. I am sure I will make the same trip often as that is where (Milwaukee) my daughter and son-in-law plan on settling down later this year when he retires from the Air Force. No doubt there will be grandchildren to vist down the line.
