Heinasirka, heinasirka, mena taalta heiteen!

The title of my post is in Finnish and it was taught to me by a beautiful young woman nearly 40 years ago (she obviously made a big impression on me). Translated Heinasirka, heinasirka, mena taalta heiteen means Grasshopper, grasshopper jump into the sea. This is what St Urho commanded a plague of grasshoppers to do back in Finnland centuries back.

St. Urho, Legendary Patron Saint of Finland

Saint Urho's Day is celebrated every year the day before Saint Patrick's day. You can read all about it HERE.

Saint Urho's day is absolutely as real as Santa Claus, Kwanzaa, & the Easter Bunny.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .

Good morning Bob. That is indeed one way to cure a plague of grasshoppers. Makes on want to ponder a bit. Thanks. Enjoy your day.

Good morning and Happy Saint Urho's day Wayne Martin . ☘ I love giving honor to this fairy tale every year as it fits in with quite a few fake holidays much of the world has been duped into believing.

I love knowing about Saints and I have to confess that this is the first I have heard of St. Urho, the Legendary Patron Saint of Finland.

Brian England it is a totally made up story that came out on Minnesota in the 1950's. That is probably why you had not heard of him.

How cool, Bob. I'd never heard of this day. And now it's twice the pleasure and twice the fun with two days of celebration.

Thank you Michael Jacobs . As you know Minot North Dakota is home to the worlds largest Scandinavian festival so I've received a little information there along with what the pretty girl taught me 50 years ago. 😊
