I grew up in Pennsylvania and this is what I remember about it.

I know because I grew up there.  Here are some things I remember:

If someone in a store offers you assistance, and they don’t work there, you might live in Pennsylvania cause you’re all so damn friendly.

If you have a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed the wrong number, you might be from Pennsylvania.

Vacation means going up north past I-80 for the weekend.

You measure distance by hours.

You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a blizzard, without flinching ( I know, I used too)

You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them.

A critter is something you eat for breakfast

You have an uncontrollable urge to buy bread and milk when you hear the word “SNOW”

You know the only way to make good Fastnachts is to cook them in Lard.

fastnachts

You know what REAL pot pie is

You say things like,” Outen the lights”, “I’m calling off today.”

You prefer Hershey’s Chocolate to Godiva

You have Dinner for lunch

You know what Lebanon Bologna and Scrapple are made from but you STILL love it.

When something gets all fouled up you say that it’s Ferhoontzed.  (My dad loved that one)

Who else remembers these awesome PA experiences?

Will Hamm - did you write this? It was very good!

I didn't live in Pennsylvania, but I have experience coming from IL. Mind you, I didn't drive a car until I was in my early 30s. I learned that when you're stuck in a blizzard, the snow is deep and blowing so fast you can't see the road, but you just keep going, if you get to your destination, it is because Jesus took the wheel.

Thanks for taking me on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, Will Hamm! It’s amazing how those little quirks and experiences shape our identities, and your post made me smile and reminisce about my own Pennsylvania roots. Here’s to the friendly vibes and delicious memories of home!

Hello Will - while I didn't grow up in Pennsylvania, my childhood memories are vast, deep and, over the years, likely well-seasoned.   Thank you for sharing these memories.

Hi Will,
My paternal German ancestors originally settled in Pennsylvania. I went through PA on my 2021 trip, but I would love to go back and spend more time.
