A Disruption In Routine

Not everybody can relate to the cartoon but we sure can in our household. For nearly twenty years every radio in the Timm household and automobile was tuned to 1320 AM radio (KHRT aka K-Heart) but our broadcast listening world was turned upside down when the station went off the air permanently.

When I read the first two panels of the cartoon I was thinking about the computer I replaced at home this weekend. I had been using an older HP for several years but it just became to slow. It took two days just to remove the old HP and then deal with the dust where it sat all those years. I replaced it with a much newer Dell all-in-one with a beautiful touch screen that, coincidently, belonged to my friend who owned KHRT radio (he was always giving me machines that he replaced in the radio studio).

A new home is always a big adjustment. First home, upsizing, downsizing, or moving into retirement living. They are all BIG adjustments, especially if you are moving to a new community.

If you are moving to Minot North Dakota I recommend you use an agent who has lived here several years and can guide you through the community. I also recommend you join a subcommunity like a church as soon as possible. Don't let yourself get lonely, surround yourself with like minded people, it will make your transition go much smoother.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .

Hello Bob - change can involve some adjustment.  And likely a bit of adaptation too.  It isn't necessarily easy but important to keep in mind as we move forward.

I've always enjoyed exploring Michael Jacobs but change is a whole nother animal to me. Exploring is like taking a half a step forward knowing it is easy to step back but with change there is no turning back... even if it's a mistake. I don't want to sound bleak because for the most part change has made my life better. Sometimes not. 😟

Good morning Bob. Somewhere in almost everyone must be an uncommon gene that lets you know "people abhor change". That said a lucky few have a gene that says "bring change on". Sounds terrific but I must have both since I have resisted change and embraced change over the years. Enjoy your day.

I think I got the "bring it on" gene from my mom and the "abhor change" gene from my dad. They have been at war inside of me for ever and neither one is winning after 70 years.

Good morning, Bob... I'll be the first to admit that I don't like changes to my daily routines. That being said, I do love getting a new computer. I've used an All In One for years now and love it.

I am really liking this computer Nina Hollander, Broker BUT it does not have a CD/DVD drive which is making it hard for me to set it up exactly as I would like. Somewhere I have two external drives but I can not find either.

Bob "RealMan" Timm my prior All In One had a CD/DVD drive which increased the cost of the computer by quite a bit. They just don't make computers with those drives any more.

Oh yes, it's frustrating when something we like to listen to or do all of a sudden is gone!

With so much entertainment available at our fingertips you would not think it would be a tough adjustment BUT that station employed friends and had just the right combination of music and teaching for me Kat Palmiotti . I really miss it.

I have had several HP laptops over the years but they always slow down, I recently got a Dell and am so far very happy. Enjoy your new computer.

It sounds to me like we are on the same path Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 . My "new" computer is only new to me but I am liking it.

Great attitude Anna "Banana" Kruchten . I have had changes that were both good and bad for me. Either way we learn and hopefully we learn in a good way.

Lew Corcoran it's wonderful when change leads to better things in our lives. At this point nothing wonderful has become of my favorite radio station going off the air but I know that with so much choice on the internet now I know I will find the replacement I want.
