Another "style" picture from 1970.

shoes without socks 1970 yearbook

Old yearbooks are a lot of fun to look through.

I was searching the 1970 one and saw this group picture of the Future Homemakers of America. Looks like all girls, doesn't it.  Then I noticed all those legs on the front row. Notice two girls with what we used to call "saddle oxfords" and they date way back to the 50's and were worn with socks, always with socks. Note there are no socks on these girls but all of the shoes look as if they need socks! A style change, I guess.

And sadly, the reason I was checking the old yearbook was because one the girls, third from left on front row, was Vani Jo Quattlebaum Geroy who passed away this month.  She was lovely and always fashionable.  Notice the hairstyle in the picture below!  That style became so beloved so fast in the whole country.!

We all will miss you forever, Vani.  This blog is a memorial to you and your wonderful life.  You brightened the lives of every one just as you did this yearbook.  Obituary can be found at Powellfuneralhome.net

Hello Barbara - sorry for your loss.  As everyday life continues to pass, a trip to visit our yearbooks is likely a melancholic experience.

The old ones are good.  The newer ones that I have seen are not a good.

So Sorry for your loss.  Year books are for the strong at heart.  I have lost too many friends to go down that path.

Sorry to hear of Ms. Vani Jo's passing. I did not know her but was fond of her dad, Ivan.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.

As for the photo, I think dresses turned into pants as the usual clothing for women somewhere in the mid 70s.

That was a wonderful change.  And in 1972 Title 9 was passed making girls be offered sports and other things equal to boys!!  That was even more wonderful!!

Good morning, Barbara... sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, Vani Jo. She truly was lovely! (I know that hair style well... sported it myself back in the 1960's.)

I guess the hairdo is unforgettable.  The first time I saw it, I was overwhelmed thinking it so lovely.  I wanted it but didn't have enough hair!
