Real Estate is Like a Box of Chocolates

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX PALM REALTY BK3247553

If you have ever seen the movie, Forrest Gump, you will have heard the quote spoken by his Mother, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get."

I've found in all the years I've been selling real estate this has been true almost every day.  It's more unusual for a day to go by where I didn't encounter something  unusual or something that I have never heard of or dealt with before.  I guess it would make sense as, working in Florida, I work with people from all walks of life.  It's amazing how different the real estate business is in different parts of the world and even different parts of the United States.  I think I hear at least once a day, "That's not how we do it in........."

It is kind of fun, thought, to see how things are done in other places.  Even with social media we don't really get to see the nitty gritty of how other agents really practice their craft in other places.

Well, time to get back to it!  Hope you all enjoy your day!

It's true, the real estate process is much different from place to place. I moved from NY to MT, one an attorney state, and one a title state. What a difference!

Yes Kat Palmiotti - I have heard they are very different.  That would open up a new box of chocolates every day!

Good morning Vickie. Having worked in different markets in Illinois and Florida over the years that quote resonates with me as it applies well to real estate. Enjoy your day.

Hello Vickie - real estate, like everyday life, is a combination of the expected as well as moments that are anything but routine.  It can be quite the mixture!

Thanks Michael Jacobs -  you are so right!  Some days nothing crazy happens and then some other days I feel like I went to a different universe

Hi Vickie,
No matter how long we've been in the business, new situations await us, don't they? There’s always something new to learn, a different way to approach a deal, and a fresh perspective from clients relocating from across the country (or the world!).

I like that way of looking at it Carol Williams with a new thing to learn or a new approach- like you said maybe it’s about a shift in perspective.  Thanks

Good morning Vickie,

I think you nailed it! It's true, the real estate process is much different from place to place. I remember when I found an agent to sell my moms home in NM and when I went over things realized how much real estate varied from state to state.

Thanks Dorie Dillard Austin TX - it can be pretty tough to be dealing with what you’ve done for years then go somewhere else and feel like you’re back in school.  I’ll bet you handled it well though.

Vickie, I think that is why I love real estate.   No two days are alike, and that is a good thing!

Hi Vickie- when they say real estate is local, they're not kidding. It can even be different within a large state such as Texas or Florida.

The contract that we use in the area around Washington DC is different than the one we use in the rest of the state.  As Kathy Streib says, real estate is local - even in a smaller state like Maryland.
