I'm pretty sure I've never slipped on a banana and in our house we have a covered garbage can in our kitchen therefore there is no "shooting baskets" with garbage.
If you read my posts regularly you know I have had a few incidents of my feet flying out from under me or getting knocked flat onto my back from a large gate lifted up by a strong (60+ Mph) wind and smacking me in the face.
About 15 years ago my step-father (James Noehl) visited us as he often did. Jim requested we make a few changes in our home to help him with his failing mobility. One such request was to put a handrail up for the steps leading downstairs where our guest room is located. I was not excited about the idea at the time as I knew it would get in the way when moving furniture and appliances up or down as they need to be upgraded.
Today I am glad he suggested it as that hand rail has probably saved Carol and I each at least one fall. I have also added a small grab bar in my shower just in case. Getting old is a drag but it's a fact of life and it's good to prepare for it. I don't have anymore ideas to implement in my own home and hopefully I won't need to make future adjustments but I certainly will remain open to things that may need to be addressed.
Here is wishing you good health through the rest of your days.
