The 2025 Carlsbad 5000 Takes Place April 6
There are multiple running events during the year in Carlsbad. The Carlsbad 5000 takes place on April 6th and is supposedly the world’s fastest 5K race. Several world and US records have been set, and broken, since the race was established in 1986. Runners will certainly hope to set new records in 2025! (feature photo shows part of the same course as the Carlsbad Marathon).
If you are interested you still have time to register online, but don’t wait as this event typically sells out. Registration closes on April 4.
There are multiple races taking place on Sunday April 6th. There is the main event, the Carlsbad 5000 (5K). But other runners may be interested in the All Day 20K (four 5K races) offering 4 categories of runners. (photo courtesy of Pixabay).
The Elite Invitational races for men and women are by invitation and offer prize money.
The Junior Carlsbad races on April 6 are for kids ages 4 to 12. There are 2 options, depending on age. Kids can run a ½ mile (ages 4 to 6 recommended) or 1 mile (7 to 12).
The Health and Fitness Expo takes place at the Carlsbad Village Faire on Carlsbad Village Drive on April 5 (open 10:00 to 3:00) and 6 (open 6:00 to 1:30). You’ll find sports equipment, apparel, and much more from numerous exhibitors. Runners can pick up their race kits Saturday at the Expo, or pick up kits beginning at 6 am on Sunday. Waiting until Sunday could mean long lines so plan to arrive early.
The post-race celebrations take place Sunday in the Village and offer live music (8:45 to 12:20). The Pizza Port Beer Garden will be open from 8:00 am to 1:30 (ages 21 and over only with ID). 5K participants (21+) receive 2 free beers with their registration. Here’s the schedule.
The Carlsbad 5000 is popular, so expect a few thousand participants and spectators. I would plan to arrive early to find free parking in the Village, and along the course to cheer on the runners and enjoy the festivities.
Be aware there will be some parking restrictions so be sure to pay attention to parking signage when leaving your car.
And don’t forget about road closures including Carlsbad Boulevard (the Coast Road along the beach) where the 5K is held.
