EDUCATION (Latin "educar'e) LEARN FROM WITHIN

I remember Kindergarten & what a pleasant experience it was except for when I found out my mother left which produced a desperate crying & sobbing. As to the rest of it, once I recovered, pretty good stuff. The teacher sits at a piano & plays Old Macdonald Had a Farm. I never heard this before. I didn't know the words even though the teacher sings it out loud, however on the E I E I OH part I caught on quick & my voice was heard on the chorus parts

WORTHY NOTE: Just when I was getting comfortable being there, they bring in a speaker on Head/health hygiene, who goes on to explain about bugs in your hair. (As I grew up, I understood he meant lice). I look over to this girl on my left & a moth landed in her hair. I went nuts & started rubbing my hair, screaming until they calmed me down & explained that it wasn't what he was talking about  LOL

EDUCATION

The educating of a child in this country takes place over a 12-year period as we know. Reading, Riting Rithmetic (the 3 R's) not only works but is necessary back then. At some point, as I progressed through the grades, I started to lose interest

BORING

I compared the schoolroom to what I did at home & on weekends as well as after school. Playing ball, climbing, running, sports, hanging out, freedom, subway trains, trips to the candy store & more ALL more important than the classroom

NO BLAME

They try to make it interesting, but my insides & desires were more to my liking. They really messed up when they started homework, which interfered with time away from school. What an infringement into a child's life. School can be crazy

I AM NOT ALONE

My wife & sister plus others loved schooling. Okay & fine. Schooling is subjective but the school system is not. I wanted to do what interests me. Enter now, into the title of the post EDUCAR'E which is to learn from within. I will explain further

WATCH WHAT A CHILD LIKES

Then reach & teach them through that. Animals? Sports? Working with hands? Travel, trying new things, cooking, arts & crafts, asking questions, playing ball, jump rope, baseball cards, watching cartoons, little toys, candies, yo-yo's & all the rest of a child's world is their world. What part do adults NOT understand?

WORTHY NOTE: You are a child a short time. You are an adult a long time. Why can't this be flipped or reversed?

BUT C'MON NOW

The system has it worked out on how you will spend your 12 years going through it. It is not based on what you like, but what someone else said is necessary. This blanket rule works for the general population, the herd & society at large & they even came up with a STIGMA (the stick) & a carrot (the reward) if you go along

THE STIGMA

You're a high school drop out? Even worse: You only went through public school (6 grades)? You are juvenile delinquent, outcast, never to have or hold a job & a disgrace to your family plus blacklisted for life, in any job, wherever you. Another X on you was the branding of being left back, not advancing with the class & having to redo that year or semester. it was punctuated by not graduating with your class & made even worse by having to attend summer school to move forward or die! Threatening a kid with more school when they hate normal school? Insanity

WORTHY NOTE: It was so bad, this condemnation by society, that they came up with a post "drop-out" plan called getting your GED (general educational development) program) an equivalent to a diploma. Now, you had a chance

THE CARROT

Do you have a diploma? YES, I DO answer gave access to jobs, the military & social events. It implied good things about you, made you instantly acceptable & bestowed on you a license to be human, participate & grow every which way

THE INCENTIVE?

Young children/teens would be threatened, punished, beaten, & the reward was all that would stop as long as you did your homework (strictly enforced by teachers & parents) graduated, & finished school. There were positive reinforcements too

LET'S VISIT EDUCAR'E AGAIN (learning from within)

If I was learning, doing, & participating in something I liked, I would finish what I started no problem. Just mix a little must do's with lots of fun do's & diploma no problem. After all, didn't they make up a fun song to help learn your A B C's?

WORTHY NOTE: In regard to "liking" what you are doing, when I was given permission to go outside & play, I wouldn't come back until it just turned dark & you couldn't see the faces of your friends, the ball or the bases anymore.

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING

When the classrooms were not crowded, the teacher spent more time with each student. All the kids would show their teacher their progress & get her approval. Then, when parents & teachers got together, the teacher would give excellent feedback & input regarding their child, what they like, don't like & any special talent they discovered like spelling, drawing, arts & crafts, helping others etc.

THE SYSTEM MUTATED

Let teachers teach in bulk, packed classrooms as a compliance & pass the kids on whether they learned or not. Maybe they will pick it up next year or class? (called kicking the can down the road), it worked until the 12th grade when everyone including the student, found out they learned or knew nothing. Can't read or write

PRIVATE SCHOOLS HELPED

They educarated your child, spent time to develop & guide for a price. You shouldn't have to pay $$$ to be educated correctly.

Hi Alan,

I agree with you wholeheartedly that good education should not have to be paid for.  They're are lots of good schools and teachers out there, but I feel that many of them don't get paid properly and therefore many of them just don't give a damn
