The Auburn Citizens Academy is an incredible opportunity to connect with your community, meet local officials, and gain a deeper understanding of how our city operates. I had the honor of participating in the first session, and I can’t wait to share my experience with you!
A Day with Auburn’s First Responders
Our first session was packed with hands-on experiences with the Auburn Police, Fire Department, and Communications/Emergency Management teams. From stepping inside a SWAT vehicle and watching a police K9 demonstration to learning how the 911 operations system works, the level of detail and organization that went into this event was truly impressive.
Highlights of the session:
Emergency response simulations – We experienced real-life scenarios, including firefighting exercises and using life-saving equipment 
911 Call Center insights – Did you know you can text 911 in an emergency? This is a game-changer for individuals with disabilities or those who may not speak English fluently! 
Eagle Watch Program – Auburn residents can register their security cameras to help prevent crime and assist investigations in their neighborhoods. Auburn Public Safety App – A must-have tool that provides critical safety information at your fingertips.

This seven-month program is open to Auburn residents and provides an inside look at every department within the city, from water treatment and traffic control to municipal court. Not only do you gain valuable knowledge, but you also build lasting connections with neighbors and city leaders.
