What Do Baseball and Real Estate Have In Common?

The baseball season begins soon. So, what do Baseball and Real Estate have in common? (Home Plate, Pixabay)

Baseball and Real Estate are similar...Have you noticed that the object of both is to "GO HOME"!

Baseball players practice and train to "go home"

Real Estate agents (like me)...I wanted to be a baseball player. I practice, train for my clients to "Go Home".

When I was 11 years old in 1964, my friend's Dad took me and my friend to my first baseball game of my life. It was a night game at Yankeee Stadium. I remember it vividly. We walked up the tunnel to the ground level in right field. An there it was! The beautiful green field in the lights with the ball players, running and catching and stretching before the game. There was the prominent smell of cigar smoke with a haze of smoke hanging over the box seats with the old timer fans smoking. I was hooked immediatey. My father had passed away the prior year. I immediatly followed the Yankees listening to Phil Rizzuto on the radio with the play by play and reading the box scores in the newspaper every day (I still do) and making a scrap book. My father had liked the Dodgers so I followed them too, even though they had moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles.

Real Estate Home

The object of both professions is the same.

As matter of fact for 125+ years, owning and going home is good for us and for America. Baseball is an Americant (Pastime) tradition, hot dogs, apple pie & going "Home".

Baseball

Baseball is an American Tradition  & as the comedian George Carlin would say it is all about going HOME! The best play in Baseball? Well it is to run home by hitting a "HOME RUN". In John Fogerty's famous song "Centerfield" the lyrics say, "there is new grass on the field...he is rounding third, heading for home, a brown eyed handsome man (Jackie Robinson)...anyone can understand the way I feel..."

The object of Real Estate and Baseball is to GO HOME!

Go Home

Baseball and Real Estate number one objective is to GO HOME!

Oh my gosh, Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI this story you wrote is brilliant. Clearly, baseball shaped you into the person you are today! Have you thought about entering the March AR 2025 Challenge?

This is a beautiful story about our American roots in baseball and the goal that every baseball player and person who strives to achieve the American Dream is all about! I played a lot of baseball in my childhood up through my young adulthood and running to home plate was something very important to me and the Team I played on. That's why this blog post of yours was so refreshing to read!

I really appreciated reading it today.

Jeff, I like the way you cleverly tied real estate and baseball together. Great analogy!

Thanks for sharing Jeff!!! I can see the similarities!!!

Especially just like baseball, there are many strikeouts and a few home runs. All we should be looking for is base hits not home runs. They will happen periodically, not every hit!!!

For sure Sham, if selling a home is a base hit and selling a mansion is a home front, go for the singles every day. Jeff  🙂

Good morning, Jeff... a wonderful analogy and very creative. Since I don't follow baseball it's one that would never have occurred to me!

Good morning Jeff. Really like your analogy and your willingness to help people in your area to run the bases as a coach. Enjoy your day.

Hi Wayne. Running the bases can tire us out (like doing the contract, getting an inspection, finalizing the financing)...but in the end...baseball or real estate, everyone is happy when you "GO HOME"!

For sure Joan, let Jeff (me) be your COACH other wise you may miss the sign given (hold or steal the base )and get picked off at first base. If that happens you cannot GO HOME. Jeff

Have you seen the George Carlin bit about the difference between football and baseball?

Mar 28, 2025 07:40 PM
Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI

Yes Lise, one of my favorite comedy routines.

Manly and wimpy comparison.

Baseball you make an "error", football you get a "PENALTY"

Baseball you score by going "Home", football you throw "TD BOMB"

Baseball you have a single and double, football you have a "Blitz" and "Aerial Attack"

The words are SO DIFFERENT in each sport.

Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI - thanks for remembering to add all four links in one comment. I'm reading your posts this morning over a cup of coffee, same place where I was yesterday. Computer issues stink. It makes me appreciate working out of my own home even more now, even though the ambiance is nice, there's no place like home! Or, as you so cleverly wrote, getting to home base!!!! I LOVE BASEBALL!
