WHAT MAKES SPRING SO SPECIAL?

Photo Journalism by Patricia Feager

Spring is an invitation to witness new buds on trees, birds returning to where you live, feeling the weather break from cold to warm, and perhaps witness new baby birds or other animals.

If you accept the invitation something new can take your breath away. There may be days when the wind that blows across your face are warm, and it feels refreshing. You may feel like getting up earlier, so you don't miss anything because you feel energized.

Spring may cause you to change your habits and eat a healthier breakfast to fuel your day to do more ambitious things outdoors. Or, on a rainy day stay indoors and clean out your closets or kitchen cabinets. You may even feel like whistling while your work.

You may notice there is more joy coming your way, especially when you can go outdoors without wearing heavy warmer clothing. Or perhaps you feel more alive than you have these past several months. If you're someone with arthritis, perhaps your aches won't hurt or that your fingers can do more than on a cold winter day.

Hearing may become more astute to the singing of the birds. If you're lucky, you may notice a mama bird nesting.  The sounds of nature can promote healing and curiosity!

Wherever you go, you may see happier children.  When hearts are gratified, people are calmer. Maybe even a lot kinder to one another.

Patricia, Spring is my favorite time of the year.  Everything just feels fresh and new, and the temperature is perfect, it is not to cold or to hot.

Hi Patricia,
The weather is always unsettled this time of year but there is no denying the excitement for the renewal of life that spring brings.

Carol Williams - Spring in WA will surely make its presence noticeable soon! The unsettlement of temperatures and weather conditions this time of the year is a prelude to what's to come. The "renewal of life" is always something to look forward to!

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words.

Patricia, this is such a lovely, gentle reminder of all the little things that make spring so wonderful. You've captured that feeling of renewal perfectly. I especially love the image of the warm wind on your face and the idea of whistling while you work. It's true, spring just makes you want to get out there and live a little more, doesn't it? And the photo journalism is a great touch, really brings the feeling to life. It's a beautiful post.

Dennis Neal - yours is such a beautiful comment. It is nice to know that visual images I included are nice but the pictures I created in your head makes you know exactly how it feels! I always strive to inject emotional feelings into my writing, and your comment filled my heart with joy because you understood with meaningful words back to me. Patricia I am so happy we have our 'spring' weather back in town!  I think it's in the mid-80's today and it feels so good. I'm one of those with arthritis and the warm weather is just what I ordered! I also have to have a re-do of the hip surgery I had almost 2 years ago this Thursday.  So I'm am very glad it's warmer out. Helps me get around much easier!  Yes!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten - Isn't it wonderful to have our spring back. Warm weather is a heart-lifter radiating with deep joy and gratitude. I'm so sorry you have to have another hip surgery this Thursday. It's such a chronic problem for seniors. Sadly, two years went by too fast and how sad for you and so many others who are in the same type of bones (boat). Seniors shouldn't have to go through a re-do, but they do. I pray the surgery will go well and you will heal faster this round.

I will say a little prayer for you and your medical team.

Good afternoon Patricia,

Love the quote by Marcus Aurelius! It's all about living the life of gratitude and Spring calls attention to so many discoveries of Mother Nature and all her sights, sounds and smells. I love walking early in the morning and listening to the melodies of the birds, seeing the buds pushing out on the tress and the clean fresh air! Spring is my favorite time of the year.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX - Marcus didn't just spread wisdom, he spread joy too. Having Mother Nature nourish our souls with songs of the birds, the smell of a flower, and the faces of happy children is such a blessing. Let spring be a cleansing to all!

Spring is in the air with the "crack of the bat" and the first pitch in March for the baseball regular season. THEN we know that winter is behind us (except maybe in Minnesota and Chicag, until April (sometimes). Jeff

Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI - I love your analogies. Whether it's a comparison to baseball and business, or spring and the "crack of the bat," it is all good! I would always come alive after my long Chicago winter naps when baseball season began. There were days when there was a blizzard on my daughter's Holy Communion and my birthday on April 3, and there was sometimes snow in May. But the true warm-hearted, cold-blooded Chicagoans adapted to all kinds of weather.

Hello Patricia - any shift in the calendar can have impact.  And the reaction can be different for each of us.  Why not celebrate any change in weather?  It's something different (even though it may be little or none) than the previous season.  Experience Spring!

Michael Jacobs - there is always something special about the seasons. Changes are cyclical in nature too! I find that fascinating!

I wish you a very enjoyable spring season.

Thank you.

Kat Palmiotti - when the silence of winter is broken, and the birds are in the sky and trees, they perk up our ears and causes us to focus more on our natural surroundings. The changing of the seasons impacts and/or inspires us, and it can be such a good feeling!

Patricia, Spring is such a special time of year especially when you live in an area where spring is the awakening of dormant plants and where birds return to after a long winter as you mentioned in your lovely post.  It is a hopeful season and as you said a time to reminder to look and listen to the joyous sights and sounds all around.  Happy Spring!
