DIY Sink Repair: Fix Common Issues Like a Pro

A functional sink is essential for any home, but over time, issues like leaks, clogs, or low water pressure can arise. Instead of calling a plumber right away, try these simple DIY fixes to restore your sink’s performance.

1. Fixing a Leaky Faucet

A dripping faucet is not just annoying—it can waste gallons of water. To fix it:

  • Turn off the water supply under the sink.
  • Remove the faucet handle and replace the worn-out washer or cartridge.
  • Reassemble and check for leaks.

2. Unclogging a Sink Drain

A clogged sink can slow down water flow. Here’s how to fix it:

  • Use a plunger to loosen the clog.
  • Pour a mixture of baking soda and vinegar down the drain, followed by hot water.
  • If the clog persists, use a drain snake to remove debris.

3. Resolving Low Water Pressure

If your sink’s water pressure is weak:

  • Check if the aerator is clogged with mineral buildup. Soak it in vinegar to clean it.
  • Inspect the supply valves to ensure they’re fully open.
  • If needed, check the plumbing lines for leaks or blockages.

When to Call a Professional

If your sink issues persist despite DIY attempts, it may be time to call a plumber. Serious problems like pipe leaks or persistent drainage issues require expert attention.

Good suggestions of plumbing repairs for the do it yourselfers among us!  I prefer to have a good plumber on speed dial. I am always afraid of making a bigger mess of things.

This is great advice... but personally there are two things I never touch... my plumbing and my electrical systems! Besides, as my age once I get on the floor and under a sink, I might never get up again! :)

Haha, I hear you, Nina! Some things are best left to the professionals—no one wants to get stuck under the sink! But hey, that just means more time for you to enjoy a beautifully designed space while someone else handles the tricky stuff!😊
