Pet Owners Have Responsibilities

Unfortunately many who are eager to be pet owners did not think things out before they purchased or adopted their pet. This is the number one reason humane shelters across the USA are full and even worse, animals are abused and reported to the ASPCA.

There are two rescues for pets in the Minot ND area. One I do not recommend, the other is excellent. I advise people to avoid The Souris River Animal Shelter. It is my opinion their track record of putting fundraising first caused the catastrophic collapse and emanate closure until the City jumped in and took over.

On the other hand I encourage people to support For Belle's Sake. For Belle's Sake is located SE of Minot (just a few miles) and they care about the animals FIRST and they have never had money management problems.

Those of you who have been reading my posts for a while may remember my post about the two parakeets that saved my daughter Tina's life. I believe they have other critters for adoption such as guinea pigs too.

You may be wondering about the text line at the top of the picture above: Rescue and Rehabilitation. The farm that For Belle's Sake is located on is owned and run by my favorite veterinarian. She operates a business called The Pet Vet which is a mobile operation. She comes to you. It's a wonderful service that is far less stressful the standard veterinarian.

My association with The Pet Vet started 25 years ago when I owned a pet store in a very small town 50 miles from any sizable community. Sharon had just started her business and I was hoping she would be willing to make the trip to Underwood ND. She did and has continued to do so, I believe weekly, today.

In conclusion I want to say that if you are considering your first pet read up on it's needs and demands of your time. Rescue! Don't keep the puppy mills in business.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Hello Bob and some place do not do a good job of taking care of animals, I have seen this in the past and I wonder about the TV ads to sent money and for only $19 a month, how much go into talking care of the animals.

Yes, I hate their ads Will Hamm so I don't give to them. They are to long and to sad. I often wonder if it's real footage or if they make those dogs look bad just so they get money.

Thanks, Bob "RealMan" Timm! Your insights on responsible pet ownership and the importance of supporting good rescue organizations really resonate. It’s so vital we think about the well-being of our furry friends before bringing them home!

I always made my kids read a book on whatever pet they wished to bring home Lew Corcoran . I think it really helped them understand what their responsibilities would be.

The thought of all these animals in pain makes me so very sad.  Thanks for calling attention to the need for all of us to do more
