The Computer Monitor You Use In Real Estate Operations

The real estate computer monitor you use in your day to day.

Just creating emails on your desktop, texting message on your cell phone and all set? What worked five or ten years ago doing the job just fine and dandy?

Or finding your daily tech demands make monitor selection more important? Lots of questions caused because of a time delay in your real estate workflow?

three computer monitor screen set up

Harnessing technology and saving time makes computer monitors near the top of the hardware / software investment list in today's real estate operation.

When you're working in real estate—editing listing photos, creating video walkthroughs, updating social media channels or managing virtual tours.

Your real estate computer monitor setup matters more than you might think.

And yet, there's a persistent myth floating around: that your monitor doesn’t really matter because it’s your computer’s CPU doing all the heavy lifting.

That’s simply not true today.

We've come a long way from the Commodore 64 and IBM 286. Was your current monitor model the same one used by Columbus on the way across the pond?

Your one, two, three or more monitor(s) are your window to the work you’re doing in real estate daily operations.

It’s the tool you use to judge whether a photo is crisp, whether colors look natural, and whether a video transitions smoothly or not.

A subpar display can bottleneck even the best machine, leading to poor editing decisions and slower workflow production output.

What's that? (Whispering then a hush).

So so close to real estate retirement and telling your friends you are analog and not digital? Then coast to the finish line and step off the real estate listing sale treadmill.

You've earned it and enjoy the Golden Years. Hey, what are you going to do with your old typewriter?

But for the rest of us, how do you choose a monitor that actually enhances your real estate video editing work and other demands?

Have you considered the size of your screen? If you’re constantly switching between photo editors, MLS systems, spreadsheets, and email, having more screen real estate can make your life a lot easier.

A 27" or larger monitor gives you the space to view side-by-side windows, edit photos in fine detail, and preview video tours without squinting. Two or three monitors helps the workflow of a real estate day.

Besides screen size, is your monitor sharp enough?

Resolution plays a huge role. A 4K display allows you to see finer details in high-resolution photos, which can be a game-changer when you’re editing to perfection.

Even if you’re not working in 4K, having a higher resolution means less scrolling and more clarity.

Your peepers will thank you.

How accurate are the colors you’re seeing? If your monitor doesn’t show colors correctly, your beautifully staged living room might end up looking like it has mustard yellow walls instead of a warm neutral tone.

IPS panels are the gold standard here, and monitors with high sRGB or Adobe RGB coverage will help ensure what you see is what your real estate buyers and sellers experience too.

What about refresh rate of your real estate computer monitor?

Even though you’re not gaming, a higher refresh rate (like 75Hz or above) can still make scrolling through large photo libraries or video timelines feel smoother. It reduces eye strain and keeps your workflow fluid—especially if you’re working long hours.

Have you checked your real estate video graphics card lately?

Your monitor and graphics card need to work in harmony. A high-resolution monitor with great color depth demands a graphics card that can support it.

If your graphics card is outdated or underpowered, even the best real estate monitor won’t perform well.

This is especially important when running dual monitors or using editing software that relies heavily on GPU support.

Do you have the right monitor connections?

USB-C, HDMI, and DisplayPort can all make a difference in what resolution and refresh rate your monitor can run at. Check your computer’s ports and your monitor’s inputs to ensure compatibility and to get the best performance.

Are you working under natural light on your computer monitor?

Glare from windows or overhead lights can make editing a nightmare. Monitors with anti-glare coatings can reduce reflections and make it easier to work in bright spaces. In this day and age of zooming, your real estate home studio and green screen can make demands on lighting.

And finally, are you treating your monitor like an afterthought?

If so, it’s time to change that mindset. Your real estate computer monitor is not just a display—it’s your creative partner. It affects how you work, how long you can work, and the quality of what you produce.

I crank out a lot of run and gun real estate videos

Besides needing to see crystal clear what I am editing for still imagery, the video colors and refresh rate must keep up with the day in and out rapid fire production editing.

It's all about saving time, seeing exactly what you are doing during surgery on otherwise might as well slip on a blindfold and hope for the best in your real estate media presentation.

No thank you to "good enough". You want to stand out and go above and beyond. And you need to save time. So next time someone says the CPU does all the work, remind them without the right monitor, you might be driving a race car with a very dirty windshield.

Or your video editing is around frozen screens, green, pink snow static interference and outdated real estate computer monitor glitches.

It's like speakers being the most important component in your audio chain. Nothing you do with the amp, tuner, turntable EQ or cd player or gold-plated connections matters much if you do not have crystal clear speaker response.

Your real estate computer monitor is the window on everything that happens in your computer hardware combination.

Shopping for a real estate computer monitor?

Make sure it's for a computer and not just a cheapie Black Friday TV monitor special. The wrong real estate computer monitor or a yesteryear dated one hurts your presentation in today's visual and sound information society.

Andrew Mooers | 207.532.6573  Wow, Monitors are so important; they do all the reading from our computers. I am going to bookmark this, as you have so many excellent features here. Many of us remember the old monitors and were thankful for them. Not anymore; as you stated, we need so much more.

Big is better in my book Andrew. I have a 36 inch that doubles as a computer monitor and a Smart TV. It is big enough that I do not have to use my reading glasses... a plus! Jeff

The frames per sec of a video production and how smooth or interrupted the editing goes is critical to the best out put and ROI use of your time Sham Reddy CRS! If you can not accurate "see" the work flow, your surgery can be a botched operation.

I have found that just having a laptop works well for me, since I enjoy having my office everywhere that I go, haha.  At one point, I had a second screen, but truth be told, I didn't use it very much, haha.

The two monitor workstations are a Godsend for my two secretaries and I. A third monitor that is larger over the two is like piloting the Starship Enterprise easily through an asteroid belt.

I tend to have multiple screens running at the same time; therefore, my current set-up is two 49" Samsung Odyssey curved monitors and a 24 " monitor running vertically. The 49" monitors allow me to have 3-4 pages displayed (on each), and the verticle allows me to better process contracts and long text documents.

I also teach and present online often, and the additional monitor space allows me to see a larger audience.  The downside of this?  A large desk/work area is needed, and I have an assistant to monitor participants and their questions.
